    Yo folks, lets cool it.

I just got home from the game. Yup, I heard a lot of anti-semitic chants during the game. In general the Swiss crowd was extremly aggressive and rude. While the Israeli crowd was silent during the Swiss national anthem the Israeli anthem got booed and whistled. Part of the blame goes to the swiss media which is definitely guilty of incitement against the Israeli team (and Israel in general). Tages Anzeiger, a Zurich daily (which is boycotted by most swiss jews because of its anti-semitic reporting about Israel) published some very strange articles mixing politics with football. Commentaters in Switzerland always refer that the Israelis "play dirty" etc.. And that comes from a nation with players like Alex Frei... no comment needed...

About the water... well, to be honest in most parts of Switzerland tap water has the same quailty as mineral water and thus mineral water is only served on demand.

About the anti-semitic leftwing nuts invading the field... well... there was no real security actually. There where only a couple of volunteer stewards between the crowd and the playing field. Which is probably OK for most games - but some security should have been available especially for such a game. Anyhow, I actually chatted to the steward who catched one of the punknazi pigs before the game and after the incident - nice guy and he was pretty pissed about it. The stewards did what they could - they were very surprised. Once the stewards got them the wackos were dealt with pretty rigorous. They were escorted out to the police just a couple meters next to my seat. There were a couple other Israel supporters from france and to my surprise even a lot of Swiss supporters next to me that ran down to the wackos and gave them a beating... they got what they deserved. The steward from my section asked me to look out for Arabnazi flags but I couldnt see any from my spot. Later in the train back home I saw a couple Swiss nazis with Arabnazi flags though.

I highly doubt that the regular Swiss crowd identifies with those wackos though. A shame that a handful people can spoil a nice day for both of the teams :(. Oh yeah, and I got a CHF 50 banknote as change where someone wrote on it "Israel, der kriminelle Judenstaat" - "Israel, the criminal Jew-country".

Oh yeah and about the meat, thats one of the anti-semitic laws that we still have in Switzerland. Unfortunetly our leaders of the jewish community are too scared to fight those nazi-laws :(.

    Re: NAZI SWITZERLAND

You mind telling us exactly what you heard?
My advice to you is not to get upset about anthem whistling as it is a rather common occurence in international football.
Israel has accumulated 26 yellow cards so far, that is much more than anybody else in the group. We have nine at this point.
So now you also toss out terms like anti-semite and nazi? I thought you said to cool it. You can import kosher meat to Switzerland but can't perform the actual slaughter inside the country. This has nothing to do with nazi-laws or anti-semitism, but with our animal protection laws. To us the shechita is a cruel way to kill an animal involving useless suffering. You may disagree but those are our laws. Regardless, I believe the kosher meat was held up at the border because of its quantity and our laws regarding the import of food.

    Re: NAZI SWITZERLAND

    SO NOW 2 PEOPLE!
I called my friend...he said they chanted ZIGG HEIL and also Aushwitz...
and its not 1 or 2 people, its a whole stand....this stadium holds 30,000 people its not that 30 here, 20 there and 50 up there chanted it...it was a whole stand that did it..and near the Visitors area too!

And i think they threw some stuff at us..... i belive coins.....
This story is getting more disturbing by the hour

What can i say...theres alot of anti-semetic refs out there in UEFA!

    Wait...
he calls Swiss laws Nazi and he doesnt get bashed, but when i do it....i get beaten like a horse!

    this is unfair!

And besides, the facts is a fact.....
The meat was not slaughtered in Switzerland. It was brought from Israel..meaning the animals were slaughtered in ISRAEL and not SWITZERLAND..
Making excuses for Quantity and laws of importing food is just anoter way to hold things up...

but the Basel community was nice to donate enough meat and the meat that was hold up was sent to the Faroe Islands :)

Being an Ireland supporter I will say the Swiss were dead on in saying you guys play dirty.

Also this whole whine session you just stated... welcome to the treatment the US team gets every away game, but you don't see us whining now do you?

I think you mean Roy Keane and have we forgotten so soon about the tactics of the Israelis at Landsdowne Road?

Yep we bomb the mighty soccer powers of Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama to get even.

We just win something Israel can't do.

    Re: NAZI SWITZERLAND

    You all should cool down!

My view of things (I was sitting closed to the Swiss sector):

    1. No Nazi chants, in the form Kappa18 wrote.
    2. Zigg Heil chants where Swiss chants and sounds only like that.
    3. Fights in the stadium and after the game.
    4. 13 ppl arrested around the game.
    5. Nice mob from Jerusalem, nice kick off with Skinheads.
    6. Press made a bad job, by writing lies over Israel.
    7. About 3.500 Israelis in Basel.
    8. Worse Security - they did not exist, like police - only Stewards.

Everything about the game, you gonna find in another - to be opened - thread. Also you gonna find the pictures (game, fans, riots) there.

But give me some minutes, I just came back.

Oh, and stop this thread with this post, or let just ppl discuss who where there! It is better, all the other ways you do not make friends!

@ KYHS: sorry, but got PN to late! Next time, mate.

@ Basel-guy: claim down, Emotionen kochen nach so Spielen immer hoch.

    Re: NAZI SWITZERLAND

Sorry, but I find that hard to believe. If a sizeable group did indeed chant it, then there is no excuse for it (people sometimes chant outrageous things in a group mentality.) Still, so far you have blown everything out of proportion on this thread.
Some of you really need to reconsider the constant use of the word anti-semite. Just for the record, being critical of Israel regarding the Palestinian issue does not make one an anti-semite. This holier than thou victim attitude is really getting old. You can't go around claiming superior moral ground while feeling justified in throwing out such terms. But hey, keep using these words on a daily basis. I'm sure it will elevate the standing of the jewish community a great deal.
You can think whatever you want, I am done with this trainwreck of a thread on a board with non-existent moderation. The bottom line is that you can't show up with a quarter ton of meat in most countries and expect there not to be any problems.

    Green Brigade: thanks.

I still can't figure out what you and your friend mistook for "Sieg Heil", but "Auschwitz" would definitely be "Hopp Schwiiz".

You need to stop being so paranoid.

I'm out of this thread now.

I was in the stadium dude - and since I'm Swiss Î don't mistake Hopp Schwiiz for Ausschwitz :).

Accumulating yellow cards does not make them a "dirty" team. It makes them a team that plays a very physical game if needed. Football is no chess.

You are damn right that I disagree because this is my country as well. It's not "your" laws. In fact the germanic tribes that are making up the Swiss german population came into Switzerland long after the first Jews settled here during the roman period... ;). And you are wrong. It has nothing to do with animal protection. Shchita is very animal friendly in comparsion to mechanical mass slaughter anyway. Animal protection is a phony reason not to change the laws - it had nothing to do when the law was written. The anti-shchita laws are remanants of the anti-jewish laws of Switzerland from the times where we Jews were restricted to live in Lengnau and Endingen only.

You may also want to do some research on Grasshoppers Club Zürich... a sports club that had in its charter even long after WW2 that Jews can't become members.

    Re: NAZI SWITZERLAND

That I can say is wrong. I did not hear the whole stand chant anti-semitic stuff. I heard single people shoutting stuff like "Drecksjuden" (=Dirty jews) and similar. As sad before "Auschwitz" was probably "Hopp Schwizz" (a chant kinda similar to El El Israel). I don't know were "Sieg Heil" is coming from but I definitely didn't hear it. Maybe something else was mistaken for it - or there was indeed a block of Skinheads. But they are surely only a very small minority.

Didn't realize that the Swiss were such pigs. Thought they were better than this guess I was wrong. Funny how so many nations around the world look at the USA and call us racists or point out our race problems like we are a bunch of ignorant rednecks, but they have just as many issues.

Thank you for adding further clarification.

I for one never claimed absolute innocence as I always expected isolated incidents to take place since this match was very attractive to the skinhead scene. I just wanted to make sure that Kappa's ridiculous accusations don't go unchallenged.
So unlike last night you feel Swiss again, eh? ;)

Look, it is your right to disagree with the prohibition of shechita, but the majority (including me) do not approve of this kind of slaughter. Whatever the origins of the law may be, today it's about animal protection. Bleeding animals to death by cutting their throat (without the use of any anesthetic) is not something I will support. Not now, not ever.

Oh please, hold your outrage. What did I just say about always claiming superior moral ground?

Nobody said we're perfect. Mistakes were made in the past and I pointed that out very early in this thread. Israel isn't exactly innocent when it comes to the Palestinians, but somehow common sense has always stopped me from general statements like "gosh jolly, I never realized the Jews are such pigs."
Look Kappa, a poster from Germany. Now this guy must definitely be a Nazi.

Gimme a break. The Israelis get slammed by every nation in the world except the USA and about half of the US is more pro-Palestinian. Everything the Israelis do is considered evil, even their very existance.

    Give YOU a break?

Sweet merciful crap, you just called the Swiss public "pigs" and felt justified doing so. God forbid someone might actually call you on it. The situation of Isreal does not give you the right to toss out such statements. I see we are back to square one and the very problem of this thread. The historical persecution of the Jewish community is very tragic, but it does not give you absolute immunity to say and do whatever you want. Capisce?
    Umm...instant death?

Animals don't suffer at all during shchita. If done correctly they are going unconscious immediately. Also, shchita is not only the slaugthering itself, it is an entire ceremony with prayers for the person doing the shchita and the animal. It is a much more personal and honest way to kill an animal then the mass slaugher farms. But arguments and the truth doesn't count in this matter anyhow. It's the jooooooos (tm) after all...

Ok, first let me apologize. I should not have made such a childish and insulting blanket statement. I don't know what came over me. I'm usually positive and level-headed.

I will clarify my statement. The individuals that made racists comments, chants, and also may have attempted to block the Israeli National team from the polite and prescribed facilities for the match in Switzerland are pigs.
