    Herisau - Zürich 2:4 (0:3)
    Malcantone Agno - Young Boys 2:1 (1:0)
    Bulle - Thun 0:4 (0:4)
    Aarau - St. Gallen 1:2 (1:0, 1:1) OT
    Winterthur - Neuchâtel Xamax 2:3 (0:2)
    Yverdon - Wil 0:1 (0:1)
    Tuggen - Meyrin 1:2 (1:1)

    and now the big one...

    Grasshoppers - Basel 1:0 (0:0)

Wow, I almost couldn't believe my eyes this morning when checking the score. GC kicked out the almighty Basel - it looks like we're back!!!

Another big upset in Lugano, Agno beat their 2nd SL club after Servette. With Basel, Servette, and YB out, I really like our chances of winning this year's cup. These are the teams that qualified for the quarters:

    FCZ
    Agno (Chl)
    Thun
    St. Gallen
    Xamax
    Wil
    Meyrin (Chl)
    GC

    Draw is on Monday...

as seen on the fcb board

Some of the Basel "fans" managed to steal one of our banners at the game...

A bad week for FC Basel....and YB has a good year in championsship, but a really really embarassing one in Cup competition. After not even pass MyPa from Finland in UEFA qualification....now even worse in Ticino!

    Come on Meyrin!!!

I would love to see them go far.

Great win for GCZ. This years cup is beginning to really open up. GC is really the only team left in the competition who has a shot at earning a UEFA Cup spot through league play. That should make the final rounds all the more interesting.

    quarterfinals draw

    Xamax - GC
    Thun - St. Gallen
    Agno - Wil
    Meyrin - FCZ

    Games are on December 7th...

GC once again got stuck with the hardest draw, but that's ok - it's a perfect opportunity to revenge last year, as well as the two losses this season. Agno has got to like their chances against Wil, and FCZ got really lucky in the draw. I'm starting to dream of a Zurich derby in the final...

...hmm, a Zurich derby in Basel. That game practically spells trouble.

    Meyrin-Agno

That would be really cool! If nothing else, this run has boosted Meyrin's presence in Geneva. Their stadium is at the end of the bus #10. It is about a 10 minute ride from the train station. The problem is that it is on the other side of the airport and it is sort of a forgotten place for some.

Does Meyrin have some supporters and spectators for their Challenge League matches? I know Etoile Carouge has been a long time League B team (and even League A during some time), but unfortunately they never had more than a few hundred people for their matches.

This is Meyrin's first year in the Challenge League. It will take some time to develop a fan base.

They are currently averaging 569 per home match.
Given time they should be able to get over 1k.

While I understand that you guys don't share my enthusiasm for a Zurich derby, it is important to keep one thing in mind. The cupwinner (or runner-up) will represent Switzerland in europe next year, and we all know that our 2nd CL spot is hanging by a thread. So do we really want a Meyrin - Agno final?

    Je pense que non...

I know that GC would give the best chance for Uefa success next year, but in a tournament like this it just seems correct to root for the little guy.

Think Calais a few years ago in France.

Normally (with GC out), I would agree with you. It's just that we can't afford another slip-up next year, otherwise we'll end up like Austria. The difference next year will be hair-thin, several Eastern European leagues are on the move forward. Here's hoping for:

GC (we can't play bad forever)
Basel (no need to say more, the most impressive Swiss team in years)
YB (They better make up for MyPa)
Servette (They are due for a good year)

Scummy Basle do seem to have a nasty element.

Maybe the "MERDA BASLEA" banner upset them!

    Tossers...

Heh heh - that's the one! Saw it on a fans' site last week, forget the Bayeaux Tapestry that is a true work of art.

PS Do you know what the banner below it says, like I say I apologise but my German is more-or-less non-existant!!!

A translation would go something like this:

"The people of Basel, as desperate as they are, now even take a piss on honor"

(of course it all rhymes in German)
