    Winner?

    Let's see.

Here's 100 suggestions (gathered from various threads). 101 if you count Cheese Enchinchadas with Onions. :)

Yeah, the first column is all suggestions with 1836 or 36 or 36ers references.

The rest are alphabetical, without the "The"s etc.

Doh. That's right - you said you'd pull them together. I was bored (read: no life) so figured I'd try to do something productive. Please feel free to uncrumple and double-check yours and make sure I've got a good set of names. I mean, I'm not sure if 101 is enough to choose from.

Hmm. I almost want 5 votes to narrow down the list. But 1 is enough.

So to the nicknames, fuboy, gorley, peanut, funkymunky, and trescojones, I can now add "punk" - thanks. *winks*

    Hahahah! :p

Nah yours was more along than mine was. I probably wouldn't have been finished until today or tomorrow, so at least we already have the voting going on.

Yes we need so many more options than 101. ;)

You know what I like more and more. Having a name like Texian Army (or whatever) and just calling the section of the stadium that we sit in "The Raven's Nest". That is appealing more and more to me.

I agree with calling our section something else... and as much as I like using Raven's Nest, It just irks me a little to call a lower section that...

I found this earlier, and after chatting with Celt, thought with all the Army's and Brigade's and Battlation verbiage being thrown around, that I should point out the US historical order/ranking size of things. Not sure how good this is going to post... but here goes.

    Unit______Personnel____Composition_______Commander

    Army______100,000+_______2+ corps, HQ_________General
    Corps_______30,000+_______2+ divisions__________Lt. General
    Division______15,000+______3 brigades, HQ________Maj. General
    Brigade_______4,500+______3+ regiments, HQ______Brig. General
    Regiment______1,500+______2+ battalions, HQ_____Colonel
    Battalion________700_______4+ companies, HQ____Lt. Colonel
    Company________175_______4 platoons, HQ______Captain
    Platoon__________40_______4 squads____________Lieutenant
Squad___________10_______9 crazies and 1 fearless leader: Staff Sergeant

Your list omitted Orange Machine/Maquina Naranja, which is probably a better orange reference than Clockwork Orange. First, there may not be that many younger people who would have seen that movie. Second, like a name that makes reference to "hooligans" or "bullies," those who do get the reference might expect "droog"-like behavior from such a group, which of course is not what we intend.

Thanks. I'd hoped I got them all, but I figured I'd miss a few.

Doesn't mean you can't vote for it :)

We have all overlooked a very good name possability..."Droogs". It's a way to say Clockwork Orange without saying Clockwork Orange and inadvertantly referencing Dutch Soccer; it's a way to say Hooligan without saying Hooligan without the immediate conotation that you are excessively violent; and it's clever as all get out.

noone that knows anything thinks Dutch when they hear Droogs (Drughi) or Clockwork Orange (Arancia Meccanica), they think Juventus. Specially now with Dino out of jail and their raise back :)

I'm pretty sure I don't want to know...

As far as "Clockwork Orange" and "Droogs" goes - I think that a compromise could be reached wherein "Clockwork Orange" could be used for the name, while "Droogs" would only be used to reference the actual members of that group.

As far as "Orange Machine/Maquina Naranja" goes - I'm still kinda partial to that one. I like the ease with which it translates back and forth and still sounds cool.

As far as "La Pachanga" (seen on chron.com) goes - I think that is a totally cool name (even though it doesn't translate well into English), mostly, I think, because it rolls off the tongue so easily.

I'll write more later (these 20-hour days are cutting into my BS time! ;) )

Orange machine is starting to grow on me. I think I already voted for Legion 1836 though. Of course the group name and the team nickname could be different. What about Orange Machine for the team nickname???

Raven's Nest doesn't have to be the upper section of the stadium. I'm pretty sure even the last rows of the lower section are high enough to suffice.

Here-Here! We (Sreaming Eagles) call our section The Nest and it's basicly at field level.

Oh, yeah, that's a good point, too. That one can be used for either case.

So when we meet on the field of of battle, it would be between the Eagles (Nest) and the Ravens (Nest)? :D

Offering an outside view, I hope you come up with a winner. Your team name is classic, so, I'd suggest adopting that theme. I think using Sam Houston for inspiration is the way to go. This link has some cool stuff:

For what it's worth, when a bunch of Galaxy fans decided to start a newer, more intense group than the Galaxians, the whole name issue was quite a tremndous occasion.

But when you freed yourself from associating directly with your team's name or colors... you could get rather creative.

Thus, the LA RIOT SQUAD was born. And it was original to the league.

However, if you WERE going to be color specific... CLOCKWORK ORANGE is F()CKNG BRILLIANT!!

    It's the stuff of legends.
