Where are all the "north" references coming from? Last I checked, Houston is in the South, Robertson stadium is in the center (or just south of center), and most southerners dislike yankee northerners. I think that North anything needs to get lost. Hammers are cool though.
Some of us advocate grabbing the North end of Robertson Stadium for ourselves - thus the Northern references. Just think about how Section 8 got its name, and it all makes sense... well, sort of!
I like the translation - even sweeter that it has a great literary reference. How do you say "Hammers of the North forged in the heat of the Deep South" en espanol
My dad got all excited at the mention of the word "porra" when I told him I was joining the MLS Houston supporter's group. He knew exactly what I was talking about (as your neighbors did). Another idea would be "Porra 1836," of course that would only work if the team is appropriately named... Houston is a pretty diverse community so I would hope that would be reflected in the supporters group.
Just my impression from earlier posts -- the hinchada will locate in the north end of the stadium. Los Muchacas -- how's that?
If the one of the colors is orange, we could always be called: I like the name...the movie, not so much.
I vote against have having a city-related supporters group name... i would like to see the houston team be the team of choice not just for houstonians, but people from other parts of texas too.
i think you guys should call yourselves one of the following: 1836 Brigade Houston Boys Texan Pride Ultras Texas
Ultras certainly indicates hard-core fans, but I have always been leary of groups with 'Ultras' in the title - the ones I have seen have always been more than a little 'over the top' - tending to violence.
I split out the English/Spanish/combo discussion to a new thread with a poll specific to that question: Poll: Supporters Group Name - Part II I'm also going to un-sticky this poll since we've had it up for a few weeks and we'll probably have some new announcements to stick soon. If you think any of those moves was a bad idea, please just let me know.
I love the movie, but I think Kubrink couldn't figure out closure to the movie's main character. He comes full circle...and?
It wasn't a character study, it was a commentary on modern life, politics, bureacratic BS and social sciences.
That's a common name for the University of Illinois' Fighting Illini's basketball fans. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't use it, but so you know it's already in use.
That's good to know. The Inferno is in use by about a dozen supporter's groups from across the globe, hasn't hurt anything we do.
the Denver Broncos defense has been known as the Orange Crush in the past...... but I like it and I don't see much trouble in using it. onward 1836 bford
Even as a dark satire of England of the period, I still don't find the resolution at the end. Anyway my droogs, a horrorshow of a flick. Anyone for moloko?
Resolution: no matter what was done to him Alex was born a sociopath. In days of yore he would be shunted aside and locked up, but in the "modern" world he was enabled by his parents, assisted by his mates, attempted to be reformed by the government and eventually "saved" by those seeking political gain. Agreed.....goes great with a glass of moloko and followed by a bit of the old in-out.
