SMU versus the pinko commies from Berkeley Tuesday 7PM at Westcott Field (just north of the football stadium, with a track surrounding it). It's the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Tickets for adults go for $6. If you need a FC Dallas tie-in, Ugo Ihemelu from Cedar Hill might look good in FCD hoops while roaming the right-side as a fullback in the near future.
This is a great chance to see some good soccer. Ugo Ihemelu is probably a MLS level player... on the left. in fact the entire defense is top notch and may all be MLS level some day. as a reminder here is the top ten good reason to go watch SMU.... http://3rddegree.matchnight.com/thirdindex.cfm?page=article&articleid=448 keep an eye on freshman Isreal Jones who made some all freshman teams and MVC all tourney team.
Why on the left and not right? As for SMU's defense, I'm not sold on Gonzalez. Needham does impress me though. Against Vandy he cleared two shots off the line with great positional play and seems like the smart centerback type who can go far. As for SMU as a whole, I don't know what to think about the team. I've seen them a few times this year and didn't overly impress me but they seem to be able to scrounge out results. The 2000 & 2001 teams seem much better at least talent-wise but maybe this team has more grit.
He played right back against Vandy and didn't play in the other two games I saw this year. I thought he was a left back too as I thought I saw him playing there last spring against the Burn. Two footed perhaps?
Speaking of western Tarrant county: I've not seen Jay play for a long time. In fact, I thought that he was a pretty decent player on a freakishly good club team. Do you mean to say that you think Needham might be MLS caliber? Needham played his high school ball alonside w/ a guy that was extremely impressive. I think he played for Solar. Do you know what ever became of Chris LaHoud? I thought he went to some east coast powerhouse team, but never heard any more about him. Guys can take different developmental paths, but as good as Jay was, Chris was more impressive.
Well crap I screwed up the quote thing above... FYI if you go here are a couple Cal Bears to keep an eye on. not saying they are MLS level.... but you never know. Forward Sr Carl Acosta, 5 gls 1 ast this year. Pac 10 first team last year. Jr Nick Hatzke 7 g 8 a for 22 pts. Midfield Sr Mike Munoz, two time Pac 10, must be hurt as he has only played in 7 gms this year. Jr Calen Carr 5 g 4 ast, 14 pts. defense Sr Kyle Navarro and Noah Merl are four year starters I believe. So Steve Purdy U20 player.
Roll Call... Sound Off ! It's time to dust off ye-old scarf and don FC Dallas & Burn Paraphenelia and support Peruna defeat Oski in the battle of Wescott. Who's attending?
Should be there. I'll break out the Scotland The Brave scarf and bring the Hoops! with me. Hoops! is a trademark of ArsenalTexan3 and his Hamilton Accies jersey. Any useage must be brought before him and you must help sponsor him to return back to Scotland in March or May.
depending on what time my 430 class lets out will decide wether i go, because if it is canceled i just may make it
Don't think I will be able to go due to holiday family obligations. However the same weather that threatens the game may free me for the day. I called SMU and they say that they will meet at 5 PM to decide whether or not to play tonight. Makeup would be tomorrow if a decision to postpone is made. Info should be available at smu.edu
cheers theo. Looks like I might be back in. However I drove by some fields(not SMU) earlier and the field has turned into a bog.
