Has there been a player in history who make a successful come back from retirement? I am thinking of an example simliar to Michael Jordan 1st comeback when he was still the best player in the game. Pele to Cosmos????

Well Cruijff said numerous times he wanted to quit. Yet he also came back numerous times.

Didn't Cruijff quit completely but was forced to comeback because he lost all his money with an investment in some kind of pig farm?

Woodgate's never retired, he's just perpetually injured.

In a way Giuseppe Signori. He was retired for a year and this season is leading the line at Sopron in the Hungarian First Division.

You could make a very long list if you considered people retiring and unretiring from their national squads.

    How about Paolo Rossi?

He was out for two years due to a match fixing scandal. Selected for the Italy 1982 squad after playing less than 5 games that season he leading them to the 1982 WC. He was the player of the tournament and won European Footballer of the Year as well as World player of the year in 1982.

That doesn't really count though - they weren't making a comeback to the game, just to a team. You may as well say moving back to a former club counts in that case.

    Rossi's a great call.

Great call. Also one of only two people to win the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at the same World Cup.

I am thinkinmg in terms of a player liked MJ who decided that he left the game and decided that he still had something left in him.

The greatest comeback in Formula One history. His one was greater than Prost's in 1993.

Back to football, Paolo Rossi is a great example. He gets involved in something corrupt and then he redeems himself in the greatest way possible.
