Pressure is off after two quick goals make it 4-1. One of them a penalty called on Jedi's replacement Joe Bryan. Steffen made a save of a long blast from Kebano- punched it right back up the middle to Carvalho, who shoots again but Steffen can catch this one. Will get some criticism for that punch, though.
Just watched the replay of City's fourth goal - Ream made a turnover that ended up with a terrible looking shot by Mahrez that goes in, deflected by Ream. Probably should be an own goal.
1-1 at halftime. A bit questionable from Steffen, he comes out for a ball but decides to not dive in for it. With him in a bit of an exposed position, a Southampton cross bounces off Laporta into the empty net.
It's never the play.Committ or stay home. I'm glad I'm shopvacing my basement so I don't have to see that .
Steffen did hold his ground to make a vital save in the 2nd half. Shot was right at him, but Southampton ripped through the City defense and Steffen had to stretch to cover an open goal. And then a minute later, City went down and scored. 4-1 final.
I thought the exact same thing. not sure what he was thinking, sauntering out like that as if he's setting up to close down the angle on a shot... from the endline outside the 6.
That’s what happens to goalkeepers who don’t regularly play. They can still make reaction saves bud decision-making goes bad.
Starting against Liverpool in the FA cup semifinal. Skied a ball into touch, only contribution so far. Big ask of him here today... I'd imagine City going to be very reliant on Stones to distribute out of the back and avoid Liverpool pressure.
Liverpool take the lead on a decent header off a corner. Steffen didn't really make an effort to make the save, which looked tough but not impossible.
Steffan very composed against the high press by LFC there... perhaps I've underrated his distribution/composure.
Another nice ball to break the press. He's being helped by Fernandinho dropping deep as opposed to Ake. oh no.... just before I pushed post, he's caught on the ball there. That is brutal.
Now other players are going back to play out for him. I don't think that's necessary and it won't help his confidence.
Even as a Liverpool fan, I’m tempted to turn it off after that blunder. Sick feeling for Steffen. Guys needs to play more often - especially given his injuries.
It has always seemed silly to me to try to play out of the back with a goalkeeper who only plays once a month. Seems like a recipe for disaster.
