From today's Wash Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/14/AR2005111401381.html DC United is holding an informational forum tonight at Ballou HS regarding plans for the new stadium. Marion Barry is scheduled to appear.
Re: Stadium Forum tonight at Ballou Right. Don't go. (But I do hope we have one "spy" there who will report back here afterwards.)
Re: Would somebody just get Barry Reports (contrary to the Post's assertions) are that he's already on board. The meeting tonight could be a good place for him to announce that...
I don't think DCU would fund an event at which Barry will speak in opposition. I could be wrong though. Free food is not enough for 2 of my co-workers to attend this event. The apathy runs high and when I say "soccer stadium" they look like they just ate some crabgrass.
Well cafeteria food is a tough sell... Maybe if you tell them they will have a keg? That always seems to work for us... Well that and "punch and pie" on the flyers.
News of the DCU Stadium meeting ran on Channel 4 News this morning right after the report on the Nat's stadium. The news caster said that Barry opposed the stadium though, which I think is wrong.
After I get my drink on at the clubhouse after work I'll subway over so I can give a full report tomorrow. Just kidding!!!
There is at least one Ward 8 resident in the Barra. I don't know whether he comes to BigSoccer, though.
A little off topic, bute here is a nifty map of DC taht shows ths boundaries of the different wards: http://planning.dc.gov/planning/frames.asp?doc=/planning/lib/planning/maps/docs/census_tract.pdf
Re: Stadium Forum tonight at Ballou stephen said he'll provide us with information on what happens at the meeting.
Re: Would somebody just get Barry Nah, quid pro quo sucks. I prefer quod erat demonstrandum. Or ipso facto. Then again, I think there are lots of folks here that condemnant quod non intellegunt. Whatever the case, I'm pretty sure the new stadium won't appear ex nihilo. Some sort of deus ex machina will be involved.
I've actually heard METRO as a verb quite often. (e.g. "let's METRO it down to DC tonight", "I METROed it home after the game", and no not the other metro) "Subwaying it" doesn't sound wrong even if it is.
