You are Bob Kraft in the year 2014.

Tom Brady retired surprisingly from your Patriots after the 2011 season, in order to start his own fashion line.

Since then, the Pats have mired in mediocrity and underachieved, going 5-11 in 2012 and 3-13 in 2013.

Question: Do you fire Bill Belichick? He led the team through an extended period of success in the 2000s, but without his marquee player, the team has faded and been an extreme disappointment. It is widely regarded that Belichick is one of the best coaches in the NFL, but he hasn't been able to get the job done in '12 and '13.

First, I'd be shocked if even without Brady this team takes a hit like you're projecting (see Matt Cassel). But yes, I think if this team drops that heavily, BB would be gone. He might even leave on his own to be honest, if it got to that point.

Well BB did lose his marquee player and went 11-5 in 2008 with no offseason to prepare. I do not believe the Pats would fall to those depths of bad.

Does Brady retire after winning his 4th Super Bowl?
If Brady retires before the draft do the Pats make a run at Andrew Luck?(They will again have 2 1st rd picks)
Who does Kraft bring in to run the franchise, since BB has total control?

    No 4th Super Bowl.
    Standard draft picks.
There is no clear replacement option.

No offense guys, but take the hypothetical records as truth. Then make your decision.

But this makes no sense ... Brady was to retire after this season, the Pats would have a ton of cap space open up. They'd be able to use their two draft picks in the first round next year to either draft a QB or trade for one.

I think you're throwing out a hypothetical that is really tough to ... well, imagine. I know you're saying to take the hypothetical records as truth, but it's hard to do when we've had an experience like this and know how that played out.

I meant no replacement coaching option...

In short, I'm trying to parallel this hypothetical Pats situation with the Revs' current situation.

Fully understood what you were trying to get at... it's just that the two scenarios are hard to compare.

Exactly. If Nicol had 3 MLS Cups in 4 years to crow about, then it may be similar. However, he's got nada and Belichick has 3 Super Bowls. I can see where he was going but they are just incomparable situations entirely.

If Tom Brady retires in 2011, Belichick follows him in 2012.

This scenario doesn't compare. The Patriots are their owner's #1 priority.

If this scenario were to occur I'm sure Bob Kraft would offer BB the Revolution head coaching job to keep him in the family.

I, for one, will take hypothetical as given. In the stated scenario, Belichick is gone, absolutely. In fact, I venture to say that if the Pats started a season 1-8, sort of like the Revs' current season, Belichick would be gone.

I disagree. Belichick needs more than 2 bad seasons to be fired. Also with his contract from what we have heard runs thru the 2013 season and he makes 7.5 million a yr. I can not see Kraft letting go and still be paying him that money after 1-8 start. BTW if Belichick was fired he would not be unemployed long.

Does the SRC in the thread title stand for "Sneaky Revs Content". We have a Nicol Deathwatch Thread. I propose we use it.

One of the biggest reasons it's so hard to put these two scenarios into the same grouping is that Belichick is an amazing 126-50 in a parity filled league with three Super Bowls and one Super Bowl loss.

Nicol has no where close to that type of record.

Just a random thought here, but any stars above our so-called crest would look really awkward IMO.

I'm not complaining, just making a pointless negative observation. This season has turned me in to a NNN. I just need something to look forward to. Anyone want to start a countdown to the draft?
