Okay wtf. This guy is amazing. I don't miss Varane one bit because how steadfast and physically dominant this guy has been. He is a complete bargain in hindsight now. The scout who found him deserves a promotion.

He became the Varane that Varane could not become. Seriously, Varane had everything as a 19 years old here. He was even better Ramos at that age, but he never became that all-timer in Madrid.

Varane was also heavily dependant on Ramos. I am hoping that its not the same with Alaba for Eder.

Militao was brilliant last season with Nacho. Varane never showed that level without Ramos. People say he led them to WC, but they had to score 4 to beat Argentina, Croatia. Not like they were Italy 2006.

Y'all don't have to diss Varane to give Militao some deserved praise. Varane peaked early but for a while he was absolutely incredible and put Messi at his absolute peak in his pocket.

Apparently there's no other way to do it, a good few people wanted Eder gone after the Shaktar game

Most appropriate thread title. This guy played a Sergio Ramos king of game yesterday. Warrior!!

Completely agree but you can't just skip comparisons here. I respect Rafa a lot for what he has done for the club.
But basically we wasted almost 2 years of playing time due to Zidane not giving him many chances and relying on Varane. Who had so many brainfarts in those 2 seasons. I can't believe Zizou didn't spot his talent and needed injuries from Rafa and Sergio to play him.

This time as a sub may have helped Militao. Imagine him starting some games and making mistakes, fans would destroy him.

This transition period seems good as he's just at an imperial level now.

He is still making some mistakes (who doesn't) but manages to compensate for them. For example yesterday in the first half he did two bad mistakes but overall, he was immense.
IMO we lost by not playing him more in that time and luckily the lack of playing time didn't hurt his quality and potential.

    He’s been a fantastic signing.

If we didn’t sign him then, there’s no one close to his level you can sign for €55m today.

Not in my opinion, Rafa was just as good in his early years and has already won and played a big part in numerous trophies for us, Eder will do the same in time

No need to downplay Varane to praise Eder. Rafael was a great CB for us most of the time.

Easily, pulling down one to annoint the new guy seems to be the thing, i get trash talking players like Eden and Mariano , but players the calibre of Rafa? they may not be prime anymore but were certainly prime for us for a good while and helped to bring us fans plenty of happy nights, i don't get it

Rafa was second best CB in last 10 years with only Ramos ahead of him.
With prime Marcelo and Carvajal that was best defence on the world in last 10 years by far...
Militao and Alaba are quility but still not the same lvl we had in Ramos and Varane. But they are doing better then expected job , expecily Alaba who is leader on the field and looks like a great mentor for few of our young players.
I mean that Zidane team was so good , for sure best squad Real Madrid ever had.
If u ask me even better then Guardiola Barca team...

Pepe was a better central defender than Rafa. Shame (and hilarious) that it ended like it did with Pepe, but guy was a beast.

Rafa was really good for us too. Played well most of the time, when he didn’t anymore he left without trouble and got us a good transfer fee.

Pepe is underrated for sure , as defender mybe better even then Ramos and Varane but overall as footballers Ramos and Varane had just better kit in they game.Varane was just better pair for Ramos then Pepe , more calm and with his crazy speed he covered much more area...

Rafa Varane was supreme in his younger years. He peaked early. He had elite speed in his younger years and after that was extremely solid for us the rest of the way too. We made the right call in moving on from him and got a nice fee. I think we bought him for like 7M. Pffttt. Immense signing.

Pepe as a pure defender is as good as Ramos. Complete package. Portugal's defensive leader in their title wins as well. He gets underrated due to the the reputation gained early in his career with that Getafe incident.

Let's also not forget he was the starter in our 2 CL winning campaigns. Got injured for 2014 final, but was immense in our run including two clean sheets vs Bayern. Benched Varane in 2015-16 season as well. 2011-12, 2013-14 and 2015-16 Ramos and Pepe combination was unbreakable.
