Not to Rain on the Parade II, but the last time we won a European knockout tie 1st leg 3-0, we needed extra time and away goals to scrape by Inter at the San Siro, with fan favourite Adebayor scoring the decisive goal. That was under AVB, who for some reason with a 3 goal lead, decided to play 4-4-2 for the only time that season, which left us out-manned in midfield and overrun for most of the 90 minutes. The win proved to be costly, as several of our players were out on their feet after the game and we picked up some key injuries, with a PL game vs. Fulham only 3 days later. Not surprisingly, we had nothing left for Fulham and lost 1-0 at WHL to our ex-manager Martin Jol (who absolutely loved every minute of sticking it to Daniel Levy). If that wasn't bad enough, Dimitar Berbatov, our ex-player scored the winning goal, a goal that would eventually cost us CL qualification. Not that I have any bitter memories stored up inside me...Now time for my midday walk in the frigid snow-covered downtown Vancouver streets in search of that magic kebab food truck...
Fair to say Poch earned his money. Toby plugged the gap Sancho was running into, Eriksen came a bit deeper to stifle their midfield, and Jan was freed up to do his damage.
Were they American-American commentators or just the broadcast was based in the US? I was watching the UK feed.
I've found that there is sometimes not much of a difference - at least if the broadcast team is working for a US network, as opposed to the BBC or Sky.
Sometimes here in Canada we get the NBC broadcast (like on Sunday v Leicester) which has the studio show based in the States but the regular English commentators. My favourite part is before the kickoff, they flash a message saying that "The following breadcast is only authorized for a United States audience" or some such, which we Canucks find quite amusing...
I think it was the UK feed, honestly. But, even the American lead-in at at half-time, they were skeptical of Spurs compared to Dortmund.
I couldn't help it. I took an hour for lunch and saw most of the 1st half, but had to go back to work right after Son's goal. Spent the rest of it just hoping we could wouldn't concede only to find out much later that we'd added two more. I've still not seen the late goals. I'm off to look at highlights now …
Winks' performance is being understated. The stats won't show it but the work rate he showed tonight deserves praise. He made a number of good tackles, recoveries and clearances tonight to stop Dortmund's trailing runners.
How many centre backs in the history of the game can play full back in such a way that they're basically wingers - and not just do a job, but be absolutely outstanding? The answer is 2. Paolo Maldini and Jan Vertonghen.
fair enough. I will accept 50% of the blame. … but the other 50% still warrants remonstrance and name-calling.
Just a bit of housekeeping about the minute's applause - they also honoured the passing of the great Gordon Banks, legendary England and Stoke City goalkeeper, so appropriate considering the venue. Good crowd too, over 71,000.
so our server went down around halftime and I was unable to follow the match online during 2nd half. I did get updates on my smartphone. every time it dinged I assumed Spurs had been scored upon before I saw the update probly due to the mood I was in, lol
what a wonderful game it was! I couldn’t watch it directly but was then able to watch a reply online (don’t ask me how) I think in a good number of games we had a bit of luck, but the luck we fought for hard! So I really believe we’re on the verge of something this year, somehow I have a strong instinct that something great will happen for Spurs. COYS!
