Heres the lineup for the back four: Spector - HH - Perry - Young this one is PPV, but as usual, I'm sure BBC radio will be covering it. heres the link for those who dont know it: http://www.charlton-athletic.co.uk/Audio.ink BTW, any news on Reyna?
And to think I was booked and ready to go to this one but life got in the way. Thanks for the heads-up though!
I'm sorry to do this because people have been shitting all over those of us who get excited about Spector, but a start at RIGHT back is tremendous for John and for the United States. It's his position of the future with the USMNT and its VERY good that he's broken through to a starting position in the Premiership on an excellent side at this position at age 19. Wow. More than wow, really.
It looks to me like he's starting at left back again. Young is the captain of the team and their right back.
1)There's a Mr.Cherundolo on the phone for you.He sounds upset. 2)You're looking from in front of the keeper so left and right are reversed.I've made the same error before. 3)I'll be most excited when he starts somewhere in the middle. EdIT:Oh wait, yeah I see where you would've thought that. That's not the usual lineup posting. But young is a right back.
As much as I think he is best in the middle, and better on the right than left- I think its great that a Premiership team wants to start a learning, 19 year old US talent on the left- when that talent has a questionable left foot. This can only help to improve Jonny's left foot, and confidence when the ball is there. That could help in spades later in career (when I think he will be in the center). This could work out to be a real blessing. May be the only time he's asked to play a position where he can really work on left foot..
1. He's got nothing to worry about . . . for another year. Competition is good. 2. Ooops. I really should have read that "Soccer for Dummies" book my friends bought me. 3. I used to think that as well and I know that John will tell you that he's a center back first, but after watching him play in the center with the youth team this summer and contrasting that with his play on the wings with Charlton and the Senior side, I have changed my mind. I think he's a fullback and that's where he will have the greatest impact for the US in the future-- I'd slot him as our RB of the future.
I think it definently early to know where Spector will finally play. Bluedaddy is right- Wynne looks to be on a good track, and is a more 'pure' RB. I could see Spector be a Keane-type, Arena-destroyer as DM, in the middle on defense, or either left/right fullback. If I'd have to bet, I'd bet on seeing him and Gooch in the middle from 2008-2010+, but that's just a guess...
Announcers discussing how Charlton boss Curbishley has coached 700 games for the club. Amazing. Sommeil is wearing a weird batman mask today. Very odd looking
Spector starts with a great long ball from the back to Bent. He is playing on the left if that hasn't been made clear.
Sinclair causing a bit of a problem for Spector. So far a bit of a nervy performance from Spector. Vassell and Sinclair are realling attacking down his side. Nothing from Claudio so far.
Who was to blame for that 1v1? (those watching)....I'm hearing H got 'the line horribly wrong'..but did I heard Spector's name too?
Spector fouls Sinclair leading to a free kick in a dangerous area. Whipped in low. Shot off by Dunne.
It was one on one Spector vs. Sinclair. Spector was outmuscled by Sinclair and it led to a very dangerous situation for Kiely. Man City are really attacking Spector at every opportunity. Spector with a clearance. Annoouncers talking about Johnny right now. "American from Illinois... Well thought of at ManU..etc."
Man City dominating so far. Dunne with another chance from a header. Should have been 1-0 according to the announcer.
