First of all, plz correct my awful spellings.

    Magazine "Shpikel"

    Dec.4.2002

Ranks of the teams which the seeded nations (Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Spain) of WC2006 would want to avoid at WC2006?

    1. Holland
    2. Portugal
    3. South Korea
    4. England
    5. Yugoslavia
    6. Czech Rep.
    7. Mexico
    8. Nigeria
    9. Sweden
    10. Norway

This survey was done to the citizens of the 5 WC2006 seeds (Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Spain), and omitted Argentina as one of the seeds. It also hypothesized that England would not be seeded.

An overwhelming number of the Germans, the Spaniards, and the Brazilians chose Netherlands and S.Korea, while the French and the Italians chose England as the most formidable foe.

    ----------------------------------

    Magazine "Kaldernburg"

"In order for the WC2006 to be successful, an 'Uberraschung' (shock? in english?)" is needed. European teams are expected to be of a force while a 3rd nation(meaning not UEFA or CONMEBOL) will have to be in the quarterfinals of the semis. The team that's most expected to take that spot is 'die Republik Korea'(The Republic of Korea)."

"The most recognizable scene at the WC2002 was not the fall of the giants, but the rise of the new powers. WC2006 could become a delusive tournament like the WC98 where the quarterfinals and the semis were full of Euro teams as there will be a severe home advantage for the European nations in WC2006. The most promising prospect is 'die Republik Korea.'"

    Prediction for the WC2006?

    1. Germany
    2. Brazil
    3. France
    4. Holland
    5. Spain
    6. England
    7. Portugal
    8. Italy
    9. South Korea
    10. Argentina

1st magazine is called "Der Spiegel"(The mirror), a serious one I have to say.
    2nd one: No idea
Überraschung (surprise). Well the korean draw much attention and overwhelming reactions of the german fans, who called them blood friends after the game between Korea Republic and Germany. The performance of the korean team and their fans earned a lot of respect (Kahn said after a Bundesliga-Game in which the fans were running wild again: If you have particpated in the world cup 2002 and experienced the overwhelming fan reactions there, you know how lucky you are to have at least the memory of it.).

Besides, Germany won't make it to the semi-finals in my eyes.
Just remember their opponents: Saudi-Arabia, Ireland, Camerun, Paraguay, U.S.A and South Korea.
    And Brazil?Turkey and England!
But I do not want to start the discussion about the german team in 2006 here...

I will visit the korean Government in Germany on January 31st, due to a essay-contest in which I made the 4th place, which was about the world cup 2002 in Korea and Japan.
So much to my feelings about this loving country...

So, did they seed those 5 teams already for 2006? How can it be? And what is the deal w/ Portugal coming in second place? Do they have another "Golden Generation" coming thru the ranks? Surely, Figo, Rui Costa, Couto, Joao Pinto etc. group (which won the Youth Cups in the early 1990s) would be gone by 2006. If that group couldn't do it, I don't see how they can fare any better in the future.
