That level of ignorance and stupidity is pretty amazing. They are trying really hard to support the clichés about Argentina,

Is it though? Like you can't tell me you are shocked by it? Argentine rugby players I coached told me this. On an individual level, not so much but in a group it comes out.

II will let Argentina posters here comment on this more extensively. They are reasonable people and will give a more informed opinion. Personally, I have spent a lot of time in Argentina, I like the country , (been there 6 or 7 times for extended time) and have never felt being discriminated against.
Having said that, this level of racism/bigotry and homo & transphobia (not to mention crass ignorance) though is simply shocking and may reflect some serious societal issues.

The justification is really not that different from how the Spanish racists in the stands try to explain away their racial abuse of black players.
In some way, the veep's answer, "so what if we are racist, what the ******** are you going to do about it?" is a lot more honest than Enzo's "I abhor racism, I just enjoy singing racist songs from time to time."

The need to disprove this nonsense is in itself depressing, we should not give these morons our time and engage with them honestly. They should be beneath all decent folks.

That, IMO, isn't good enough for the sort of people who care about these things. If you're Black, your recent lineage can be traced back to Africa at some point (Mbappe could have played for Cameroon), and racists know that as well as you and I do. I don't think they're drawing a line on the Black players' family trees and saying, "You've been here long enough to be one of us". If a distinction is being made, it's one without a difference.

One of the most disgusting aspects of European culture is their tendency to prioritize race over citizenship. Mbappe is as French as Napoleon, but they're too stupid to understand that.

I've said it before- that country has some live ones. I don't know which European country they think they're imitating, but that's really the only place they could have gotten it.

I'm glad Moishe and ASF and Boca totally reject that sort of behavior.

I never considered the origin of it personally - when i was a lad people would have simply said the n word

Indeed in the 80s it was common enough to hear asians called all manner of things - which was in part a hang down from the war

Never forget my nana raving on about "the filthy japs" lol

I would argue they put ethnicity over citizenship rather than race per se. Although racist thinking generally informs how they define ethnic groups, much like Bosnian Serb radical politician Biljana Plavsic claiming that Bosnian Muslims*--fellow South Slavs by any metric--were the product of a "genetic mutation" which of course she never bothered to define.

*"Bosniak" didn't come into general usage until after the war.

The N-word was common growing up. As were slurs against other non-white groups (skipping bathing and just washing your face and using deodorant was a "Puerto Rican shower" IIRC). This is notable because I grew up in a lily-white rural community; my home county was 99.8% non-Hispanic white when I graduated from High school. So we were racist against people we never, ever had the opportunity to hate in person.

That's a better way of putting it, yep.

That;s true. Conservatives don't want us to be a tossed salad (rather than melting pot, which we are not), but that ship has sailed.

Yep - same with my hometown

My 3rd form year had 3 non-white kids out of 250. My friend was called a chink even though he was 5th gen

IMO things were much worse than what i've seen in western europe

And don't get me started on Saffers

In Brazil that was called a French shower. But it was perfume instead of deodorant.

I am actually torn on this point by Jose. Because as a Ghanian we could claim Mainoo, Depay and Nico Williams. We would be so much more deadly. However, they are born and bred in their respective countries so they are also right to view themselves as English, Dutch and Spanish.

I don't understand the point of your post.
Why would I put my life at risk by willingly approaching a bunch of ethnicity-prioritizing dimwits and comparing their favorite son to a Black footballer?

  20. No, leave out the Mbappe part. Calling Napoleon French to an ethnic Corsican, while they themselves don't consider them being French and given the centuries old violent behaviour of those islanders, isnot advisable.

That is stretching it mate....Most corsicans consider themselves French. Nobody is going to kill someone for calling Napoleon French. Napoleon is laying at the Pantheon in Paris for a reason.

To me it's about the player's choice and nothing else. El Khannous was raised in Belgium but chose Morocco. Chadli equally raised in Belgium but chose Belgium. Both valid choices imho. It's up to how the player feels about it him or herself.

France has a number of islands they call French, like those in the Pacific, but the islanders themselves disagree about.
France to discuss Corsica 'autonomy' after violent protests
The decision to loosen France's historic control of Corsica -- an island of around 330,000 people -- would be unprecedented. Officials in Corsica have pointed out the successful example of the...
