http://northwoodsleague.com/green-b...08/bullfrogs-ownership-present-outdoor-event/ There is a baseball team in Green Bay proposing a new stadium. In the article they mention bringing a "minor league" soccer team the city? Just wondering anyone thoughts on the project. Any speculations as to what league a market like Green Bay could support?
The stadium looks to be shooting for 4,000 seats. This would rule out the NASL since Div. 2 standards require at least 5,000. Since USL also wants Div. 2, it would also rule out USL. So unless there would be a plan to expand the seating to 5,000+ for soccer it would have to either be an amateur team in the NPSL, PDL, or a regional league or a league like ASL which is currently just a northeastern regional league with desires to be Div. 3.
Wouldn't a simple waiver, that NASL has already obtained for other situations, allow a team to work in this stadium? At least for a time?
The formal document from the RDA minutes says 2500 formal seats but capacity of 8000 for events. I wonder if that's enough wiggle room.
The Premier League of America, formerly the Great Lakes Premier League makes the most sense for Green Bay. It's in their region and the venue size is appropriate. From there they could maybe grow into USL one day. The Green Bay Packers are an exception due to history and I don't think their broader regional appeal could translate at the NASL or MLS level. Better for NASL to look to Milwaukee. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Talking to the Bulldogs owners, sounds like their going with USL or NASL. Still uncommitted and keeping it close to the vest.
Totally agree. I don't think there is enough interest in NE Wisconsin to support an NASL side. PLA or NPSL would be the best fit for Green Bay. If the Bullfrogs owner wants a NASL team he should work with the Torrent or Barons to put it in Milwaukee.
The PLA is a much better option, totally agree. The city of Green Bay is barely over 100k people and Brown County, WI is only about 250k.
Actually got one of the PLA Expansion Committee members in touch with this group. Their stadium is too small for USL requirements, and unless they're hiding piles of money, and Milwaukee is actually joining, NASL is too expensive. Start small, then work up. These guys don't even know if there is enough support for soccer in Green Bay to support anything.
