So with Rivaldo apparently for sale and so many injuries...

Do you think SAF and co. are looking at bringing him to OT? I doubt it but, with Ronaldo the First asking Real's board to bring Rivaldo in, would Man Utd maybe want a little payback for Real stumping up the price of Ronaldinho so much that we end up missing out?

Rivaldo is dead to me after what he did in that Brazil - Turkey match.

    Godfather references are always welcome....

But I say go for it, Sir Alex!

    From Soccernet:

So, he's available for free, eh?

Can't see him coming to United still, as he was unhappy with being on the bench, and he won't see enough time with us anyways...

Ok, Devil's Advocate - who would you rather have on the pitch in the 75th minute in a 0-0 away game against Liverpool (like the one in November :) )

    Diego Forlan or Rivaldo?

    I say Rivaldo...

    "I say Rivaldo..."

    This season, for sure.

But I think Forlan in the long term....he shows enough flashes of brilliance to make me think he could potentially replace Ruud someday.

Good point. He wants to play and he won't get any time in UEFA games (is he cup-tied?).

With the injuries we have now, he would easily start though and Fortune would be back to the bench. His coming to Man Utd would surely put Flether's chances of first team action on the shelf...

Of all the big clubs rumored at this stage, I think we have the clearest need for Rivaldo, because our attack is so lacking at the moment.

Whether this translates into our buying him is another question entirely.

Would we need him in January though when Ole comes back?

if we can't use him in UEFA games, I wonder if we'll pony up the money. I don't know if he's cup-tied or not...

    Anyone?

If SAF plays Rivaldo as an attacking midfielder, well, we can take all of those we can get our hands on, right?

I do not believe that he is cuptied.

I'm pretty sure he has not played at all for ACM yet this year in either league or CL, so I don't think he is cup tied. I agree that Rivaldo is clearly more talented then Diego, but, I don't think he has the mental make up to be a role player coming off the bench. If he is unhappy and going to be a locker room problem, do we want a Portguees speaking malcontent affecting our 18 year old future?.

Thus the reason SAF probably won't sign him.

Unless he makes him an offer he couldn't refuse....

I like Forlan when he comes on but I have just 1 question. What are you smoking?

    "What are you smoking?"

Haha...mainly old Virginia pipe tobacco. :)

Anyway, I meant replace once Ruud retires/moves on/etc. Not replace as in outplay.

What would we sign him for, the women's team? He lacks testicals and Keano would snap him in two if he ever tried something akin to what he did in the Brazil-Turkey game.

lol - I'm surprised Wenger hasn't been linked with Rivaldo. He is, after all, a master diver...

But isn't the European Super Cup cup competition for last year's winners and as such is not really a part of this year's European Cup league?

I don't know, I'd be shocked REALLY SHOCKED if we attempted to sign him, personally.

If RvN gets injured though it would be nice to have a striker with real experience waiting in the wings...sign him for a one year contract or something and pick someone better next summer.

    Rivaldo

Once Rivaldo is fit, he will become one of the best players in the world again. The team that gets him is lucky.

He is definitely a world class player. (period)
