Hey guys as you know Chelsea's contract with fly emirates is going to expire at the end of the current season so they have signed a huge deal with electronic company, Samsung. So at the press conference, Peter Kenyon and some Samsung rep previewed the new Chelsea kit with a newly designed Chelsea logo.

So the 05/06 kit will be Umbro and only 06/07 will be Adidas, is it ?

Yes as a gesture of good will when Peter Kenyon cancelled Umbro's shirt deal, he allowed them to supply Chelsea with their centenery 05/06 shirt and then in 06/07 Adidas takeover

That is not next season's home shirt, it is a mockup using this years design with the new badge and a samsung logo.

The new home shirt will be a new design with a special gold embroidery making up part of the badge, with gold trim, as next season is the centenary season.

To my knowledge it's an old Chelsea badge from years ago, not a newly designed one.

It is a new design but heavily based on the first badge ever to appear on a Chelsea shirt.

    Old badge

Probably the most famous of the Chelsea badges, used for 33 years, this was inspired by the civic coat of arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea. The lion was derived from the Arms of Earl Cadogan who was president of the club and also held the title Viscount Chelsea. The staff is that of the Abbot of Westminster whose jurisdiction extended over Chelsea. The roses represent England and the footballs more obviously represent the game.

Chelsea did not start wearing badges on their shirts until 1960 making this the first one used in that way. For the first few seasons the full badge, complete with circle, was sewn onto the shirts. However due to the complexity of the design several simplified variations were stitched into the shirts during the 60s and 70s, even though the full design complete with circle remained the official club badge. The cup triumphs of the early 70s were marked with the addition of an FA Cup symbol and stars.

Launched in November 2004 the new badge will be effective from May 2005, in time for the club’s Centenary Season and a special Centenary version of the badge will be used during that year. At the launch Peter Kenyon said: "We are incredibly proud of Chelsea’s heritage. The design of this new badge is based on the one from the 1950s and it was a conscious decision to do this."

"As we approach our Centenary Year, and the club embarks on a new and very exciting era, it is appropriate that we have a new identity that reflects our tradition and can represent us for the next 100 years."

i'm probably being silly, but why does the badge say 'from 2005'? Why not 1905-2005?

The 2005 isn't part of the badge.

Are the Chelsea supporters pleased with the new badge? We Ajax supporters are trying to get our old badge back. IMO your new badge is great!

I think it is great for 3 reasons:

    1. Its a cool design, better than the old one.

    2. It is an acknowledgement of the history of the club; which, at a time when everything about the club is changing at a rapidly, is very important.

    3. Fans and supporters groups have been asking for a change of badge ever since it was changed in the 80s, so this shows the new management at the club (Abramovich, Buck, Kenyon etc) are listening to the fans and taking their opinions on board.

The current logo was only introduced by commercial reasons. It's a simple version of the old logo (just 11 lines). Original old logos shouldn't be replaced for commercial reasons, football is about tradition. That's why Ajax supporters are protesting against the new logo (was introduced 14 years ago) Some pics:

This is how we want it, replace the new logo

    For the classic logo:

All over Amsterdam there are posters and inside the stadium the supporters bring banners etc. to protest. The board will decide about bringing back the classic logo in May.
