They were seen recently in Liverpool attending an Everton match and Everton saying Sporting Club of Kansas are bidders to takeover the club. What does this mean (if anything) for their MLS interests? http://www.thebluetestament.com/2015/10/15/9546955/rumor-sporting-everton http://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com...r-rumours-rumors-united-clash-kansas-heineman
Timmy to Sporting??? Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about this...I'm likely a bit brain dead, but thinking about Colorado and NYRB, the situation where an MLS owner has had soccer interests elsewhere hasn't always worked out too well for the MLS side...
They've had such success with the brand, they'd be stupid not to rename their new club Sporting Everton.
Oh Bullwinkle, that trick never works. Seriously, has being a little brother to a European team or NFL team ever helped an MLS side? If Shay Facey and Angelino are the ceiling of the young talent that can come in on loan, being from a truly top club, what the hell good would being aligned with Everton do for SKC? DC is run on a shoestring, Colorado is completely ignored, the Hunts and Krafts aren't exactly at the forefront of prioritizing their MLS sides. I see zero benefit, only a potential dilution of focus.
Excellent point. Although, it would only take Everton getting relegated for SKC to become the big sibling in the multi-club ownership family.
Everton is one of seven clubs to be in every Premier League season. They're unlikely to be relegated.
Yes, I know. But it could happen, and it will happen eventually. No telling who the owner(s) will be when it does happen. Were they always in the top flight prior to it being branded the "Premier League?"
Premier league is a joke. An English league dominated by foreign owners and foreign players. If I was an England resident I'd be switching to a lower league side honestly.
If you grew up with Chelsea in the well to do area in London you are not going to switch sides to Fulham or QPR. Let's get real here.
If this happened, I wonder if they would recruit Landon Donovan to be part of the organization Or, Sporting KC could set up a partnership as it is growing its soccer infrastructure.
I was honestly just thinking the same thing, kinda, about MLS; and was strongly considering just being a fan of the USL.
Sporting is denying the rumors. .@SportingKC have told us there is "no truth the the rumours whatsoever" with regards to a possible takeover of @Everton. #EFC #bbcfootball— BBC Sport Merseyside (@bbcmerseysport) October 16, 2015
That's how you get the best deal -- deny you are an interested buyer. Not to say they are indeed an interested buyer. But if they were, then denying that publicly would be the smart approach.
Kind of the PT Barnum approach. I think Sporting KC was mentioned more in relation to the rumored takeover than the game against San Jose.
I agree with all of this, but I would have more faith in the SKC owners to do this well than some of the other owners (*cough* Kroenke *cough*).
Exactly. You aren't talking about one guy with multiple sporting interests here. This is a group of what? Seven? Insanely wealthy and successful individuals. The chances are that if they were to buy Everton SKC would still recieve the attention they get now and Everton would roll on like it is now. Except they might actually get into Champipns League.
Updated report on how #SportingKC owners are no longer interested in purchasing #efc w/quotes from Robb Heineman: http://t.co/bjFZeYYpsp— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) October 17, 2015
What am I missing that they are "no longer" interested? Was there interest at some point that I misread?
Yeah there was interest originally back in August according to Carlisle's full article. http://www.espnfc.com/everton/story/2665768/sporting-kansas-city-say-no-truth-to-everton-takeover
Walking away from the negotiating table, or claiming you're about to walk away, is a pretty good way to get a deal done at a price to your liking.
It got Atlanta and NYCFC into the league ... San Jose got a nice loan from Tottenham ... NYRB got a hell of a stadium ... Seattle seems ok
