I'm going to put the over/under (in minutes of game time) for the first time we see McConaughey going "full Wondo" in the Austin supporters section at 17 minutes of their home opener. I'm picking the under, and I'm going to make very sure that my wife is not watching that particular broadcast . . .

 

I just took a look at the Kingston (NY) Daily Freeman and the top sports headline features the Sounders win at LA Galaxy followed by NYC vs NE.

 

I approve.

 

At church today, the pastor brought up soccer. He stressed not scoring own goals. Many MLS clubs could take note.

 

Watching the PTI 20th anniversary special that aired earlier this week. They have footage of the original episode that aired on October 22nd, 2001. And in the rundown on that episode was MLS Cup, which was played later that day (PTI originally aired Sunday-Friday).

So a show with a long history of soccer fans thinking the hosts hate soccer/MLS had a MLS story in its very first appearance.

William Yarbrough's own-goal in Sandy made PTI's annual Turkeys of the Year in today's show. Wilbon ended the "highlight" by asking "where's he playing now?" (the prior highlight was a major league baseball player who's now playing in Korea). To which I responded "in the playoffs as the #1 seed!".

 

How did that make it and this didn't?

 

Down in central Florida for the holiday and caught a segment on the local news channel about SpaceX's Saturday night launch. They were talking to somebody who appeared to fit the textbook definition of "old codger" out at the Cape who apparently hasn't missed a single launch from the Cape in 35 years. I noticed he was wearing a WC '94 cap that clearly dated from the tournament (it wasn't a recent re-issue).

 

Just heard "Doop" on a skeleton sled race in Yurp on the Olympic Channel.

 

Anybody watch the show Welcome to Flatch? The main female character wears Crew merch in every episode.

 

One of the cops in the first episode of We own this City wears a Baltimore Blast t-shirt.

OK it's not MLS but Saul Goodman is interviewed by Howard Stern wearing his New Mexico United cap.

 

He and the actor who plays Mike are regulars at New Mexico United games.
