I for one won't be losing sleep if the Cosmos don't buy in to MLS, all we have here are rumors. I highly doubt MLS would even allow Cosmos buy out RB at this point, can you imagine taking spotlight away from Man city.... erhem NYCFC?

    I disagree.

This would create the type of media noise MLS would love. Awould it last? Who knows, but the initial buzz would even make the NY general media take interest for a few minutes.

Still, it's all baseless speculation until we hear something different.

MLS has already proven with Saputo that no matter how annoying you might be, if you want in, and follow the procedure everyone else has, you will get in.

Regardless the questions won't go away for the Don anytime soon...

Garber lauds Red Bull ownership, defends NYCFC – and talks Cosmos

“The Red Bulls are commited to Major League Soccer,” Garber insisted. “How this discussion got out that they weren’t I don’t understand.”

I don't think the perceived likelihood of Red Bull staying in MLS or leaving should not take into account what the commissioner says. What the hell else is he going to say?

"Yeah, one of our owners thinks that this league is not worth investing in anymore. But please, come to us with $100 million for your expansion team!"

$300M would be fair IMO. Would leave $100M budgeted for Elmont to go towards investing in other improvements.

Probably includes the training facility they just built as well. Which makes it even more worth it.

The Cosmos name & legacy should not be sullied w/ the anti- competitive nature that is the MLS. Stay in NASL, even if u reduce your operating budget to that of the Silverbacks.

Well, if they do go to MLS perhaps you can root for their USL Pro team instead

Hopefully the Cosmos would come up with a clever name for their team (like RSL) instead of adding a 2 at the end of it.

If they bought the Red Bulls and moved the main team to RBA, they could always keep the USL team at Hofstra.

If only the old Cosmos could come back and help destroy the league like they did back in the day.

That would be pure and awesome!

Better to have no league, as long as the Cosmos legacy remains intact!

    Very Stalinesque.

I don't want to see anyone have to play at Hofstra TBH...even a USL squad.

Yeah if the first team plays in Belmont, the reserve team would likely play there or in Jamaica @ St. John's.

If they play in Jersey, they'd probably play at the training facility that the Red Bulls built (presuming it would be part of a potential sale).

Of all the Cosmos effluvia that has come from this site, I'd say we now have a new leader. The Cosmos name & legacy would be sullied by MLS, puhleeze!!! :ROFLMAO:

How is MLS "anti-competitive" but the NASL is ok? The level of play in MLS is significantly higher than that of NASL, so then NASL must be extra-anti-competitive then?

He's referring to their business model, not the level of play.

After reading the recent interviews of Seamus O'Brien, I think we can safely say it's not happening and probably will never happen.

O'Brein said something to the effect that staying in NASL means spending their capital on their own business rather than on buying a franchise in someone else's business.

I fthat's where he's really at - as opposed to issuing PR statements to bluff MLS - then the Cosmos aren't going to buy into MLS any time soon
