That last goal only counts as 1, so he's still at 13 :)

And now he's coming off for Nketiah, who is apparently still alive.

I remember looking at this a couple of years ago compared to liverpool

They had a stack of goals from their front 3 but we also had a lot of goals from Laca and Auba

The problem is we had so few goals from anyone else.

Now days even our best striker is nowhere near 20 goals from the season, and Auba has 9!!

To put that in context, Alexis was scoring, 16, 13, 24 and 7 (half a season)

That is why we suck. In the last 2 seasons Auba had 22 league goals

    Giroud > laca imo

giroud is consistently pick for Les Bleus and I think he is about to overtake(or have?) Thierry Henry for les bleus top scorer. TBH, I think Benezma is better than both giroud and laca for France national team

OK 13 or 14, I think he's on a trajectory to have his best goal-scoring year at Arsenal. Sure it'd be nice for him score 20+ but as you can tell I'm really not hung up on that. I'd much rather have a bunch of guys scoring 10-15 goals.

edit: I was using BBC.com stats before and I now see that they were listing goals in all comps. And BTW Laca's now up to 15 on that front, so they say.

The problem is, if you first choice forward line only scores 45 goals between them, you won't win anything.

    Nope

I am saying 13 gaols for your lead scorer is garbage.

It would be acceptable for the wide forward.

Martinelli has more shots on target and more goals than Willian this season. In less than a quarter of the minutes.

This is why we are not challenging the teams in 4th-7th place

They all have more than 50 goals scored

We are competitive on goals conceded

YES! Let's just pray his ankle/foot injury allows him to recover for the next (EPL) match, and then maybe we can banish Willy to ride the pine.

After the steaming pile vs. 'Pool last weekend and the poor result on Thursday, I couldn't handle watching this match - so I paced my bro-in-law for a 6mi. easy run instead.

Relived (and somewhat surprised) we won.

    Onward?!?!?!

That’s a very low bar. If you left it on the floor, no one would trip on it.

    Just finished watching.

Pretty easy match the whole way through. Sheffield are not good, and I just wasted everyone's time by saying so.

Laca was great. Combined well. Held up play at the right times. Tracked back and scored so effortlessly.

Xhaka was never challenged, but he did a fine job playing as a left back. I like his passing from that position of the field.

I loved that bit of play from Partey on the last goal.

giroud is a player with limited talent and people harped on it constantly when he was here. the cool things about him was 1) he knew his limitations and tried to play within them and 2) the things he was good at helped the players around him.

lacazette is significantly more talented but just a poor fit for us. even worse when they went ahead and grabbed aubameyang on top of buying him. WTF.

mcnicholas made an interesting observation after the game about lacazette's play. with the way he plays - dropping deep and all that - the other 3 attackers need to be people willing to run behind him and threaten the defense. all 3 today - martinelli, saka, and pepe - are the types who do and so the offense can look more fluid.

in addition to the general lack of contribution as @casoccerdad47 mentioned, willian is not the type to do so. nor, for all his qualities, odegaard. so they fit better when aubameyang is up front as he has a greater tendency to hang off the shoulders of the defense and go on a run himself.

On the more extended replay, looked like he took a knee to the quad from a Sheffield player about 30 seconds before he went down. So (fingers crossed) maybe it's just one of those contusion type injuries and they subbed him as a precaution.

And for you American viewers, like me, did anyone else cringe when Tim Howard threw out an "irregardless" ?? Good grief, he's an awful pundit.

Nah. Giroud is both better and more ‘talented’. There’s nothing technical that Lacazette does better than Giroud, and he wouldn’t outrun Giroud by much in any kind of foot race, either. Also, Giroud crushes him in some things.

Giroud is/was about as good as a player can be if it was one-touch only. If he touched the ball 3 times it was as good as a turnover.

oh, giroud crushes him in a number of things. i was and remain a big fan of his game and was one of the few people consistently defending him before he left. my view on him has not changed. (and i still love watching all of our team goals that, invariably, has him in the middle of it.)

don't know what's happened since but, as i recall, when we were looking at him the first 3-4 times, lacazette was said to be fairly speedy, which giroud was/is not. and whatever our perception of him is now, he was, if i recall correctly, considered a fairly lethal finisher, which people always knocked giroud for. also, as @bandwagongooner said, more than 2 touches and giroud loses the ball between his feet. heck, he just about flubbed that one ozil flick on.
