really!!! Oh, Argentina was the perfect game for her to play... Well, hopefully she gets another chance if not in the Olympic roaster in WC campaign.

    A few interesting notes:

Mewis last start was 3/10/14, the second longest gap in team history, after someone named Keri Raygor who I have no memory of (sorry Keri!)

Press involved in 27 goals in last 29 caps (12 goals and 15 assists). That’s some solid production.

Lloyd only 7 goals behind Kristine Lilly for 3rd all time.

I hope Howell and Smith get time. This lineup has an aged look about it. Perfect game to give youngsters a run out.

A run out for those on the edge of elimination.

    K. Mewis
    Could cement a place today.

Would like to see Campbell tested

I mentioned in another post the US' tendency to play down to weaker opposition. Argentina has enough talent so that if they are not put away early they could easily sneak one in later. So the game plan for the US is simple; Score early and often. Of course that game plan will almost always work regardless of who we are playing.

Sticking with this thread since reddit thread has 50 percent of the posts making fun of Lloyd. I don't care if one does not care for her or thinks she hasn't been good this tournament, just hate the elementary school insults over there.

No comments here on the game so far? I'm wondering if the thread isn't working. Anyway, at the moment, it looks like another heartbreaker for right-wingers who want to trash Rapinoe and especially for people who insist game after game that she shouldn't be out there because she's done for. Yet she keeps scoring goals, even when the U.S. is having trouble doing so. GO MEGAN!!!

And literally seconds after my previous post Rapinoe scored AGAIN. But she shouldn't be out there, right? Waiting for the same folks to keep explaining why Rapinoe should be benched or should immediately retire :)

And who was it who passed to Rapinoe for the second goal? Oh, yeh, that was Carli Lloyd. The other player who some say should be benched or should retire!!!

Announcers say "That's bad luck for Lloyd" when she misses a near setter.
Folks, that was NOT bad luck it was a miss.

O'Hara out for Sonnett. This was evidently expected.

That's a closer decision on offside than I thought.

Hmmm. Who was that who scored the third goal? Carli Lloyd. That name sounds familiar. I think I've heard of her. :) Current score: Grannies 3, U.S. kids 0, Argentina 0.

I will shut up for a good while after this. There are some who post here as if youth and speed are everything in soccer. No question: youth and/or speed can be valuable for a player and for a team. But they are NOT everything. As our grannies have shown many times in games, unlike tonight, that really matter.

At this point, I would venture to make the following assertions:

    K. Mewis would be coming to Tokyo for me, as a fifth midfielder.

I would take Short/Krueger over Sonnett, Purce or Krieger. She can play either side, her defending is top notch. And she can put in some decent crosses.

Davidson might be a stronger center back than Dahlkemper.

The forwards are still a mystery. Just too many of them for an 18 woman roster. Especially if you play Macario as a forward.

Casey Krueger really taking advantage of her last-minute call-up. US attack looks fluid, but Argentina defense porous. Coaches will have to look at all 3 matches. I do not envy roster decisions<----understatement.
