This is fantasy. Americans aren't dumb enough to save the Brits out of altruism. The US didn't save the Brits, during the World Wars they tried to stay out of actual fighting for as long as possible. But it's good to know from such a reliable source that the US has contingency plans just in case the UK is overcome by the barbarians at the gates.

All Williams succeded in doing was embrassasing Anglicans in front of the entire world, ensuring that that he will be remembered for one stupid comment and helped to further flare up nationalistic anti-Islamic feeling which is already pretty strong at the moment.
