I wouldn't blame Foudy for getting outjumped for the ball, but it would have been nice to see her get some contact with Garefrekes so that it wasn't an unchallenged play.

There are some keepers bigger than him. He has a aggressive face that scare many attackers. Many other goalies don't stiker so much fear on their opponents.

Face it. The US got given some of its own medicine last night. It was a bitter pill to swallow. The referee could have called the GK for the "offense" or she could have equally called Milly for unsafe play (Position for a goalkeeper is just a finger). Instead, she did what amounted to be the textbook example and let the play continue so long as neither were seriously injured.

Result.. a no call. It could have gone either way.

On the flip side, even quoted in David Ager's book "The Soccer Referees Manual" you can find what Tiffany did:

While the attacker may reasonably attempt to play the ball, if he luanches himself at it when the goalkeeper is near, he may place the latter in considerable danger. Once again, an IFK should be awarded if the referee feels the attacker played in an unsafe manner."

There's nothing really bad about a no call here. It seemed a fair balance between a US DFK and a Germany IFK.

Not only did the Germany beat the US MNT/WNT, IIRC they did it in the Semis both times, it involved a german goalkeeper who played out of this world despite being outshot, and involved teams that showed a lack of insight and creativity instead favoring on more of a "wait and see" mentality.

It's time to get some foreign blood in as USA coach, both Mens and Womens. We need some creativity.

Yes his arm was not in a natural postion thus qualifing it for intent, the major component to a handball being called.

usa vs germany

the germans won far and square, but on any given day the game could of went any way. the US were
attacking more often and didn't find the net. Akers
column in USA Today was not fair. The germans got
a lucky goal. It was not a rout. Hamm was flat. I
think the US wins 2 out of 3. It was a bad day. But
the US needs a Pichon now!
