Never thought I'd see the words 'Spain' and 'semifinal' together in the same thread but here we go... congrats to both teams. This should be a great game!

    I'm thinking we'll see a Germany v Russia final.

Spain did not look very good against Italy, and Russia were phenomenal against the Dutch.

Really excited for this one. Should be a massively different game with Arshavin actually playing. I still would favor Spain if I had to pick, but I think the Ruskies will show up and actually play football, which is more that can be said about certain nations.

Russia did create a lot of good chances in the group game and that was without Arshavin who will help them a lot.

But Kolodin is suspended for Russia and defensively I just don't see how they can cope with Torres and Villa again.

    Spain 4-2.

Also, it's our last chance to win something in the "2000s".

2010 is also in the 2000s, plus you have a world cup lying somewhere in Germany which wasn't won by any team in 2006. Go look for that Cup to fill your trophy room and leave this Euro Cup to us. ;)

    Sorry about that.
Just curious, what is the time lapse before it can be added on? 24 hours I'm guessing.

    I remember that very well.
Maceda's powerful last minute header that Schumacher couldn't keep out... but Arconada was the hero of that Germany match as well as the Denmark semifinal iirc.
Very cruel how the ball squirted out from under his body in the final. :(

God...I m so glad that Spain won today...Viva La Furia Roja...If Italy had won today, then it woulda been the demise of beautiful football...Anti-football woulda prevailed over the beautiful football, which woulda not been right...

    Viva Espanaa...

    i see.

It's just that his post made it sound like spain were running rings around italy with style all game and it was great to see that team win and not the other.

Russians will probably have a physical edge over us. They'll try to put pressure on our midfield and attack furiously and with pace. Fortunately their defence is nothing like Italy's -and certainly is not that populated-, or even like ours. Coupled with our recent discovery of long passing, I hope that will help us in avoiding their midfield.

I'm worried about Arshavin and Ramos. I don't think this game is going to be easy, hopefully the players won't be overconfident (Casillas and Villa were downplaying the advancement to semis yesterday) and beating Italy will be a morale boost.

I mean the first decade of the 21th century.;) Until now we won an EC every decade. And 2010 would be the first year of the next decade.

But I would grant Spain the cup. :) You're are always so unlucky.

No probs, easy mistake to make. And yes, the rule of thumb is 24 hours before you can indicate a result in a thread title or a thread without an [R].

I'll change the thread title back the original one you gave when the 24 hours have passed

The original thread title gave away the result of the Spain v Italy game.

Bah... maybe 2008 could really be the year where "furia roja" wins something.

This thread is about Russia V Spain, no? Lets forget about Italy...They are old news.

I'm glad we will play a team like Russia, that has an open style. But I expect Guus to play a little more cautious against us this time.

Russia scares me in attack cause Spain always has trouble with midfielders that can shoot through the offensive zone quickly.

I always felt that no team in the world (except maybe Brazil or Argentina) could play Spain with an attacking style and still win. We are masters at open play. But Russia has me convinced that they are the revelation of the tournament. I expect a great game: maybe 2-2 after regular time and someone will win it in extra time or pk's.

This game will be a lot more open, and Spain will get what it needs to win, space.
