At this point we are waiting for the season to end for player moves to happen, but we did get our first staff change with Ian Russel being appointed as the headcoach of Reno 1868 FC. I'm removing him from the list below. I'm also updating our rights area, but that's about all that can be done at this point. Now, let's wait for the thawing of the roster freeze. ____________________ Salary Budget Roster 1. David Bingham, #1 (GK) {10/19/89} [$152.8K] 2. Note: Some player's salaries were likely bought down this year with allocation money, and this cost is not represented in the figure above. The 2016 figures above were used to calculate our cap, rounding up to the nearest thousand from the union's released salaries from May 2016. Part of Wondo's salary (TAM) has been bough down and he has since signed a new multi-year contract. Wondo's, Dawkins and Emerghara's salaries have been counted as $457.5k against the cap each in the 2016 rules. Multiple sources have cited Lenhart as on the season ending injury list, and his salary is not included above. As of 8/3/16 we gained cap relief and a 100k difference in salary between MPG and Ceren. I don't think anything has been officially released yet, and can't until the season is over. Barret is still listed on the website. I was talking to someone within the FO last week who acknowledged Innocent is gone, but hes still listed too.
@Seismothusiast, as always, HUGE thanks for keep this up to date. You provide a valuable service to our community of Quakes addicts. Thanks much! Go Quakes!! - Mark
Yes, thank you for compiling, updating and sharing the roster. True, San Jose has not announced the departures of Barrett (he did) and Innocent. However, I don't believe there is any restriction to such announcements until season's end. Other teams are talking. http://www.mlssoccer.com/transactions/2017/winter-transfer-window-tracker The Earthquakes tend to be last to the party.
Aw shucks, thanks for the kind words Mark! It's been a fun team-effort to keep up the tradition that Roblar started. Thanks Socarchist, this is a great site. There is a rule in the MLS Roster Rules and Regulations which says: "The 2016 Roster Freeze Date is September 15, 2016, at which time teams must submit their final 28-man roster that cannot be changed through the day after MLS Cup." I guess teams and player just don't feel bound by it in terms of announcing their future plans.
I'm sure you all recall that in the first couple of seasons of the rebirth, we tended to say that the Quakes held their cards close to their vests. No announcements until the deed was done. Most of us thought that was a good thing. But flash forward a few seasons, and we came to realize that it wasn't a case of playing their cards close to the vest, it was a case of not having cards. So once again, we see lots of other teams linked to various players, while we continue to act like a USL side. This is so disappointing. We jettisoned two quality attacking players at the end of last season, who flourished with other teams, and we replaced them with redundant or not very good other players. Clearly, we have no idea what we're doing. We need that BTGM right now. (And we need to sack Dom's sorry ass immediately.) Go Quakes!! - Mark
I fully expect that another team (one run by competent people) will snap up Tommy before we can renegotiate. My God we're stupid to allow him to get away with ZERO compensation. Had we exercised his option, we could have traded him or otherwise received some value, but instead we've wasted three years of his and our lives and received nothing for it. The power-that-be running the Quakes have to be the most inept organization in sports...
I am told by a @SJEarthquakes spokesman that the team will negotiate new contracts with Tommy Thompson and Marc Pelosi.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) December 2, 2016
Well, I sure hope that we bring Tommy back. That we are bringing back Andrés suggests that Leitch is making some of the decisions, because Dom clearly isn't impressed. Some of the other decisions I agree with, like keeping Kip, Fatai, Silva, and ditching Henok (who looked good, but not for that kind of money), Sherrod, Innocent!, and Goodson. But if we screw up and let Tommy get away (and he could, don't doubt it) then I want to see some of the FO staff made to scrub toilets with bricks. And @Beckham7, I have to ask, you're a Becks fan and a Quakes fan? I'm not sure I can wrap my head around that. Sorry. He's the enemy in my book. Go Quakes!! - Mark
They can sure attempt to negotiate new agreements, but at the same time their agents will be seeing if other teams are interested, and if so, neither will be back next year.
@markmcf8 Yeah I'm a big Manchester United and Beckham fan. It hurt when he signed with LA. I'm slowly forgiving him.
Tommy's omission is a shocker. I do hope both sides come to an agreement. With Pelosi, we might be doing the right thing as we don't really know what level of play he'll be able to provide if and when he returns to full fitness. I've no problem with other decisions, although we will need a third string goalkeeper and Meredith seemed decent value. A few names were not mentioned at all in the article: Kofi Sarkodie, Jordan Stewart, and Marvell Wynne. Are they out of contract, perhaps? If so, Marvell might qualify for free agency. I assume Alberto Quintero was not mentioned because we're still trying to renegotiate the loan.
I'm trying not to blow a gasket over this. I'd be devastated if they lose him. I guess I can kind of see the rational - he hasn't "produced" at a level where he quite justifies his $140k salary or whatever it is, but I think it is the Quakes own fault that he hasn't "produced" more. He hasn't really gotten enough chances to play in the last 2 years, and also he has been a bit snake-bitten in not getting at least an assist or two out of the playing time that he has received. All I can say is that if they let him get away they are going to regret it. If they are doing this to try to save $50k or something and he gets away it's going to be another Beita / Morrow screw-up.
This! Tommy will hit the road almost certainly, and then be really productive for some other team. Pelosi on the other hand won't be able to sign anywhere until he can show that he's fit again. So my guess is that we get Pelosi back, or he retires. But Tommy? He's almost certainly moving onto greener pastures, maybe even Republik, which will step up to MLS soon anyway. Urrrrrrrgh. I want to yack. Go Quakes!! - Mark
