Who is Pablo Campos? Is he any good? Maybe like Fredy Montero?

If Fredy Montero were a forward who had never scored a professional goal, then Pablo Campos would be just like Fredy Montero.

Or, to put it another way, Pablo's the Freddy Montero of the PDL.

In light of Seattle convincing home opener win,
I find it quite interesting to compare Seattle vs SJ player salaries.

What specifically beyond that Montero's doesn't seem plausible?

go back and check 3_31_08_salary_info_club.pdf; this provides salary info at the beginning of last season.
Then, look at 9_7_08_salary_info_club.pdf; this provides salary info at the end of last season.
    Lastly, look at 3_15_09_salary_info_club.pdf.

Lesson to me is that an expansion team needs to spend their $$ wisely in the beginning of their inaugeral season. Seattle discovered Montero at a reasonable price. I think Seattle is paying their first round selection a lot of $$; hope if works out for them. If Seattle can be competitive in the 1st half of the season then they will _not_ have to gamble (i.e., panic) and spend their $$ unwisely. Also, I think Kasey Keller accepted a reduced salary (to what was originally announced ... I think). Maybe, they saw what was happening to Joe Cannon during the off season! Makes me think that Seattle has some pretty smart folks running the team.

Thanks Nihon2000. I'm updating the numbers. Hernandez is worth the 100K by the way. I'm also condensing Johnson's and Somma's information so that they take up one line.

Updating for the McDonald Signing. Just one roster space (senior) left now once we sign back-up goalkeeper Mike Graczyk. It's nice to have options is something comes up.

I think there were some mistakes med such as Kirovski. But we weren't a typical expansion team that had the luxury of planning time. 18 months and 6 months is pretty different when it comes to time to be "smart." And also the choice of John Doyle is someone you expect to have a learning curve. You trade inexperience for what you hope has a big payoff with time because they understand the team's history and character.

Preface my post by acknowledging this famous saying
"That's the beauty of hindsight, ...., it is always 20/20"

I do agree that JD did _not_ have equal planning time with Seattle but I can think of a few more blunders than just Kirovski :)

I do give JD credit for quickly realizing and fine tuning his past blunders though.
IMO, this last off-season was very painful for me to watch and experience e.g., JC and ROB for instance. Plus, there is the RyanC situation (e.g., both $$ and height) & a few other situations that will will have to be dealt with in the future e.g., anyone who is making > $150K and < $65K ... which seems like the entire team :) IMO, the Quakes should create/raise the minimum salary for their team (since the Bay area is more expensive than most parts of the USA). Come on now!?!

This is a glaring salary problem. The Kirovski example was really me thinking of mid-season panic blunders, which I don't think was too much an issue.
The ROB thing did backfire on us in a long term context, but he was important to last season and it helped for fans to have some limited success.

rem the height problem we had in central defense last year? And .... Garcia and Hernandez does _not_ rectify this height problem :(

Yeah, I think Ryan would help with that, but he's way too expensive for injured and not contributing. Although I guess he's finally training again now. But even RC's not terrifically tall. I like that he really wants to play here, but he makes a lot of errors. We'll see how he does now if he actually is fit.

Does no one have a problem paying Nick $198000. He is not tall not fast and can't pass the ball, and is not overly liked by the players from what I hear.I'm sure we could get a good replacement for him and have money left over.
