FC Columbus does in fact indeed exist, but it is not in USL. It is in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). They would be in the 4th division but USSF doesn't recognize anything below 3rd division.

I actually went to one of their games a few years ago. It must have been post pyro ban because there were more people cheering for the other team than Columbus.

I think the pyro was only there for maybe one season, if that.

@THOMA GOL ... no pyro, no party?

They are in the NPSL which is definitely a step down and they have always been NPSL.

Yeah, we don't have a USL team in Columbus.

Chicago actually does, in USL2: https://www.chicagocitypro.com/

Now, USL2 is semi-pro, so it's much much. But it is USL.

I also don't know how MLS could keep USL from putting a USL Championship or USL1 team in Chicago if that league had an interested investor. How could they stop it?

Yeah, I'm not sure either. The city could definitely refuse interest, but I'm not sure how MLS could block anything. I'm sure there's cities that have both USL and MLS. There's definitely shared markets. The Boston Bolts (USL-2) play in Newton, MA. Boston City FC is apparently a different USL-2 team.

At one point, we had the Columbus Stars who actually played in now-HCS. I think they were NPSL, although I'm not sure what division that was then.

    MLS can't but USSF can.

It may have changed but it used to be that when you got a charter from USSF for a professional team it included territorial exclusivity not just for MLS but for any professional men's league.

That was a bone of contention when the Crew wanted to set up shop in Columbus and the USISL Xoggz were already here. Lamar Hunt himself sat down with Kinsley and they worked out a deal that the Hunts then completely ignored involving cross marketing, dual promotions and some money.

Kinsley famously even got stuck with the lunch tab.

Also, The Xoggz gave up exclusivity for Central Ohio professionally, but part of the deal - which both MLS and USSF signed off on - said that if the Crew ever folded or relocated, the rights to MLS in Columbus would revert to Nyce.

Which of course the team did in 2019. The legal fiction is that MLS moved the team to Austin but left the name and such here to be sold to the Haslams. Nyce had every right to file suit and demand the league fulfil their contract, or at least demand a stack of money for them being in breach.

He toyed with the idea just to get back at the league for Hunt having screwed him but he decided to let it go. I thought he should have at least demanded a set of club seats in perpetuity.

I honestly can't decide who I want to win the Orlando/Miami game.

As a Crew fan, I should be rooting for Miami because we're fighting for position with Orlando. But I think a bigger part of me wants to see Miami get stomped out.

How about a draw that leaves both teams demoralized?

Any ideas as to why there’s no sign of Messi , Busquets and Alba on the bench or in the stadium ??

Surely if they’re being rested they should at least be there watching and offering support !?!

    Confused ..

If they're not playing, who gives a genuine shit where they are?

Alba and Messi are both injured, legitimately. They both came off before the first half on Wednesday

    Seriously ??

They are a team .. all players even injured are usually in the stands to watch and support

It's an away game three days before a cup final. Two of your best players are injured and research shows airplanes are not good for recovery. I doubt teams bring injured players to away games.

You’ve gotten the same answer on like three or four different boards that you’ve been on. It’s an away game. They are injured. They have a cup final on Wednesday.

"Local derby" is a relative term in the U.S. Miami and Orlando are 234 miles away.
