it is always tempting to talk about Torres "underneath", at least for a lot of commentators. There is a reason why he is played along the touch line. Having said that, Im giving Torres my "most improved player" award and half the prize goes to Klinsi for utilizing Torres so effectively on defence along the touch line. Well done. Torres' weaknesses were totally masked and his strengths put to good use. The biggest difference between this team and previous USA teams was quick thinking.
I said the same elsewhere. My only issue with the kit was the numbers, pretty dumb to put silver numbers on a white background. Besides that I quite liked the kits.
You know, at the bar everybody (except me) disliked the jersey and the numbers. I'm in the minority I suppose but I think that off-white silverish number looks awesome, as do the jerseys. Oh well, my taste, your taste...
Quick thinking and surprisingly good touch through the middle of the pitch on contested balls under pressure.
Let's make that Girl sing our National Anthem every match until we lose. It got everyone on the team focused & serious because they tried their hardest not to laugh.
That's actually my generic best XI against a good team (well, maybe Onyewu instead of Cameron, as well). Depending on Dempsey's health, I hope we see it against Brazil. At least for a half.
Continuing that analogy, I'd say this was the equivalent of an unranked college team beating Rutgers 51-10.
"If you think you're winning because you're getting laid, or because you're not getting laid, or because you're wearing women's underwear then you are! And you should know that!"
I love the spirit. The players who excelled tonight were BobBradley players. Klinsman is taking the team effort to the next level.
Torres played the same way the last few call ups under JK. His game hasn't "improved" like you say, the people around him are better so what he does gets complemented more. He played really well just like the last few call ups.
If you're a fan of "Brother, Wherefore Art Thou?" then those kits were smashing. ..... But for the USMNT those uniforms were a horror show .....[unless of course they were the secret behind how we played today. If so, then let's all embrace the horror].
Great result for the men tonight. Outside backs were great... especially FabJ. Scotland's goal came off of their only opportunity. Howard was a bit cautious (he could have come off his line and cleared it), and Cameron was very unlucky. Edu was consistently poor tonight on speed of play and decision making. He is "athletic" enough to make up for some of his mistakes but... Add in Altidore (for Boyd) and Dempsey (for one of our four holding Mids: Bradley, Jones, Torres, Edu) and that could be our current best eleven. Of the four holding mids, whom do you pull out to slot in Dempsey? It seemed that our midfield was very fluid tonight. There were times when Bradley and (to a lesser extent) Jones were the deep-lying CM. Here is my bogus current First 11: ----------------------------------------Howard--------------------------------------------------- ------Dolo---------------Cameron-------------------Boca-------------------FabJ--------------- ----------------------------------Bradley----------Jones------------------------------------------ ------------------Donovan-------------------------------------------Torres------------------------ -----------------------------------------Dempsey---------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------Altidore------------------------------------------------
I have been watching the US now for over 25 years...I spent a few minutes post - match trying to remember the last time I saw the US dominate a full game like that pretty much from start to finish. Maybe...maybe, mind...the match against Barbados in 2001. But, of course, they were playing with 9 men for the entire second half... 11v11? With our finishing that many chances? Honestly, I can't think of one. We were that darn good tonight.
