I think it's hard for an American to get.

Whether you love them, hate them or are simply indifferent, the Queen was the head of state for the United Kingdom. They have operated under such a governing/political system for centuries.

Probably not best placed to explain as I am with you and think it is stupid / ott. Have never been in to the monarchy and think they should be ditched.

The gist of it is that we (UK / England specifically) never had a proper / complete revolution (like most countries) to fully rid ourselves of being run by the rich land-owners. So there is still a weird deference by mostly the older generations towards the monarchy (and the rich generally).

To be fair, older folks still remember the rallying around serving “King & country” during the war. So in their minds there is a hard link still between patriotism for country and patriotism for the monarchy. They still see it as one and the same.

So when the King / Queen dies, officially and by tradition it has to be treated like some huge natural disaster.

So the old folks will see it wall-to-wall in newspapers and broadcast tv for ages.

Meanwhile the younger folks will see a bit of traffic on their socials and just carry on streaming (youngsters dont watch broadcast tv or read newspapers). Also they are caring less and less for the monarchy, so hopefully in a few decades …

Will have to see what the football authorities announce tomorrow. Maybe some compromise and just this weekends games affected (officially is meant to be 10 or 11 days mourning or some such).

But yeah - like you said above stupid. Sad that an old lady died, so sure, pick a day next week / or two-days tops for those who want to mourn. 10/11 days is stupid - its not like anyone will actually be doing anything, the fanatics will be watching tv and signing books of condolences, which hardly needs us to stop football and other recreational events.

Country is still backward in many, many ways …. Some very old attitudes still surviving out there …

They will start gradually replacing the currency with his ugly mug in a while, at which time will announce how long hers will remain valid for. His mug will face the other way because they alternate.

More relevant is will £10 be worth much given how the £ has been tanking :)

Can you really not use older currency once the reigning King/Queen dies?

As per above will be gradual and probably done by specific note / coin.

Individual notes / coins no longer being legal tender happens all the time, can still exchange old ones at the bank.

For example older style £20 & £50 notes go out of circulation end of this month by coincidence.

Nobody really uses hard currency anymore anyway ;)

    Games officially postponed.

Put me in the group that thinks this is ridiculous. Is it sad she died? Sure. But she was on old lady who was largely a political figurehead. Surely bigger tragedies have happened during the PL season that didn’t warrant canceling games.

How is it even sad? She lived a full and meaningful life to 100 years. No one should be sad.

I’d be happy to put up my engineering degrees against your Dairy Queen employee of the month certificate.

Really it's time for him to move on. He needs a new challenge new environment. It's inevitable unless he turns them into a cl/pl winning side he will get the sack.

The club needs a fresh look too so for the benefit of everyone part company and start over sooner than later
