Fernando Santos is the Ole of international management...... I genuinely hate watching his football and wish he'd not tarnished his 2016 legacy and had left after 2018
The Swiss qualify for the WC, while Italy will have to go to the playoffs. Northern Ireland have held firm against a subpar Italy once again. That last min pk miss from Jorginho vs Switzerland cost them big time.
Absolutely. That win has set him for a long term stay undeserving. You guys have a great squad. Especially the attackers yet Portugal struggle for goals or creativity. I think someone like Jardim or heck AVB would do a better job.
i'd love to see the terms of Smith's contract with Norwich. i assume there must be get out clause or something. not sure why else he would sign up for relegation. at a club that has no potential to build no less
The team is good enough to stay up. They have some funds. Even if they get relegated he can get them back up. His salary is probably mid-table compared to other managers. Where else can he go?
in terms you can understand - that team is good to stay up as much as Martial is good enough to start. what funds are you talking about. they are not significant. they are not going to suddenly exit the yoyo cycle. he has enough favour to land a job at a team that can reasonably expect to be mid table had he decided to wait. or even a better promotion candidate with more funds
Personally I think he should have gone to Newcastle, Potter should have gone to Villa, and Bruce should have gone to Norwich.
Interesting, looks like Holland is back on lockdown: playing today's crucial qualifier today vs Norway in a completely empty stadium.
With over 70% of the country vaccinated and vaccine passports mandated in September, they're at their highest covid rates by far (+680% case count since vaccine passports were initiated).
Ivory Coast and Uruguay could well not make the World Cup. A big blow if they do not turn their games around today. both losing to Cameroon and Bolivia 1-0.
Van der Vaart: "It's a very boring game. It's the fact that there is so much at stake which keeps us watching, otherwise we would have turned it off." pic.twitter.com/JyTKB7i9GZ— 𝐀𝐅𝐂 𝐀𝐉𝐀𝐗 💎 (@TheEuropeanLad) November 16, 2021 Van der Vaart is not holding back, as usual. Not wrong though: been a poor match, especially considering the stakes. Norway still being in this game at this game, considering all the injuries they're dealing with, is a credit to them also. Having to play in an empty stadium can't be to Holland's benefit either: that place surely would have been rocking. As things stand, they still go thru as group winners (via GD) but if Norway can snatch the win somehow...
The way Holland are playing, they might have been potentially in trouble if Norway had the likes of Haaland and Berge to call upon. Clearly are trying to hit them on the counter: just need to get thru once and that could be enough... Kind of a shocking display from Holland today. In the meantime... Not a bad team under the circumstances but can they make due with the injured/suspended (who are significant tbh)?
Big goal from Bergwijn: that should do it for Holland. Side note, you know Donny must be watching this team play of late and think to himself that he could help and should be out there with him. There is absolutely no doubt that he'll be seeking a loan at least in Jan, if things don't change significantly for him. Job done from van Gaal though: now he's got one year to get Holland ready...
Estadio #Iceteca 🥶🇨🇦(let's get that trending, eh?) Edmonton! We're counting on you to make this our Frozen Fortress tonight. You know what to do!#CANMNT #WCQ #ForCanada pic.twitter.com/TELcxdQHEY— Canada Soccer (@CanadaSoccerEN) November 16, 2021 ******** the Mexican Men's National Team. Let's get it, Canada.
Very nicely done from Weah , who cut thru the Jamaican backline to open the score. Needed some guys to step up this round and he's definitely been one of them. Had to be him of course: superb strike from Antonio to bring Jam level.
This game feels like it can still go either way. Some good opportunities on both sides, even if Jamaica clearly should have been in the lead from that Reid chance alone... FT: 1-1. Will take the point here for sure. Not easy getting anything in most away games. Let's see what happens later tonight in the Frozen Tundra of Edmonton: a draw would be the ideal result but have the feeling that Mexico are going to get drilled. What matters is to stay in the top 2 by the end of the round, which is all but assured.
Getting real tight at the top. The 2nd half of these qualifiers is going to be very interesting to see who ends up with the 3 automatic slots.
