The April 2009 issue of Fitness Magazine has an article on Sara, and what she went through when she had that devastating injury. I hadn't realized that she ran marathons after her recovery. The article is on pages 81, 82, 83 and 85. Their website doesn't have anything up about it, though.
My wife showed me that article when she first received it. I wasn't aware of Sara's trials. Nice article.
Being a UCONN fan I always like to watch her. A couple of years back there was a nice article about her after her injury and how she started running for rehab. I always wished she went further with the national team. I remember when Tony D. said that her shortcoming (if you want to call it that) was that she was so versatile and such a great athlete that he could put her anywhere and that in the end that was her downfall. If he would've played her in a single position she probably could have excelled but she thought of the team first. Good luck to her.
completely missed this from back in 2013...sorry about bringing the thread back from the dead: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/03/17/13/13/where-are-they-now-sara-whalen
