Sand League 2020-21 Official Draft Banter and Discussion Thread

Don’t feel bad Mark, my lineup has been a mess this week also. My starting strikers Vardy and Welbeck were both on bench this week after scoring prolifically in recent weeks (and both of their teams lost, wow what a great move by those coaches to bench those strikers) and my third striker Richarlison is out with a concussion. Picking up my lucky charm Giroud could give me hope in the upcoming weeks if I can advance this week, I’m unlikely to advance but it’s not over til it’s over as Yogi Berra used to say. I kid you not, when my son was born premature (and I didn’t know what was going to happen with the birth of my son) Giroud scored for the Gunners while I was waiting outside the delivery room. I took it as a positive sign and things worked out. So this guy is a good luck charm for me. No pressure Giroud

 

The semifinal matchups for the Sandy Cup are now set, here are the quarterfinal results (points from both legs are in parentheses):

Kicking & Screaming (44+25=69) vs. Aviators (53+13=66)

Almost at the halfway point. How does everyone personally feel about their teams? I'm sure everyone has 1 or 2 regrets. I think Kop Jrs transfer bills must be blowing through the roof by now

Only likely to have four players for this blank gameweek... Hoping to make up for the lost points with lots of players in the double gameweek next week though may not help in the Sandy Cup!

Sandy Cup Final is set: Locomotive Lewisham vs. Virgil Reality. It is a single gameweek final so by end of the Gameweek 19 games on January 23 we’ll know the winner. Good luck to both!

 

Today is the last day of the Sandy Cup tournament. Locomotiv needs a huge game from Grealish (probably a hat trick, no pressure Grealish) to have a chance for a comeback in the final vs Virgil Reality. The Sandy Cup Champion will be crowned today and their team’s name etched on the virtual cup in all of its glory along with the previous four champions. Sandy Cup and signed Union ball is awaiting the SC Champion! (well, the cup anyway since I can’t part with the Le Toux signed ball, my favorite Union player of all time and was great to meet him in person some years back). My 5yr old son made the cup, probably the most colorful soccer cup in existence! The cup is contractually bound to my office but I’ll make sure to post the winners name attached to it once we have the final results. The best virtual cup in the history of sports is waiting!

Valiant effort by Locomotiv today with assist by Grealish but the clean sheet for Martinez today plus the bench boost sealed the victory for Virgil Reality. The Sandy Cup Winner is Luke Bilby! I’ll post the updated list of champions shortly and it was a great showing by all in the tournament and an exciting final, which went down to the last game!

 

I was at the 2003 game they mentioned below. Anyone remember Kewell and Viduka? Goals from Henry and Bergkamp weren’t enough against those two. It took 18 years but the Gunners made up for it on Sunday with 4-2 win
