Geez, get the guy out of those horrid hoops so he has a chance. He's apparantly pretty tall, somewhere around 6'2".
25 Years later, and that damn song is still emblazoned on my brain: "He's got the look You want to know better. He's got the look That's all together. Working... Playing... Day or Night Iordache has The look that's riiight."
Didn't we look at this kid before? Or was that just some agent spouting off to drive up interest in his client? I almost got the feeling that some agent pulled our name out of a hat after we won the 2003 MLS Cup and used us as a barginning chip. Has this kid EVER been to northern California?
From the land of un-reality . . . I recently managed Energie Cottbus for a few seasons in a computer game (Championship Manager 03/04) and Iordache did a bang-up job for me!
From the article, "Iordache trained with the Earthquakes in San Jose this week and will do so again next week. Iordache trained with the Quakes in 2002." So the answer to both your questions is yes.
If memory serves me correctly, we were interested in him at the same time that Yallop was trialing Brian Ching (from the A-League). Once we signed Brian, we had no further need for a "target" forward. I wonder if Johnny Moore had anything to do with this?
I was wondering if his family made them. A pun with Iordache (which I'm sure is absolutely the same, only a different phonetic rendering of Jordache), ain't too easy.
He looks thin as a rail. A striker version of Ryan Cochrane. I hope he realizes how much of a pounding target players take in MLS....
Bad news: This means Ching won't be back any time soon. Good news: If this kid fits in, he's gonna be good.........
From the latest reports I read, Ching won't be back until the last month. Anyways, something like this was in the works well before the extent of Ching's injury/(lack of)availability was known. Remember this guy has trained/trialed with the Quakes twice before.
Brian Ching was aboard when we heard about this player. We did look at this kid and Frank liked what he saw but we did not have a lot of time to check him out as he had made some commitments in Germany. He was getting married to a girl from Santa Cruz and that was the reason he was out here. If I remember correctly, his agent was blowing the usual smoke in an effort to make the German thing a better deal for his player. Some funny money was being bandied about and we were pissed because we did not want Quake fans to be misled by a foreign agent who had no clue about the game in the U.S. We did not want the club to be used as a tool. In my opinion we do need another forward for two reasons. A) We don’t have a forward in the top 10 goal scorers. That is like your quarterback not showing up in the top quarterback rankings. It is great that goals are coming from a lot of players but your front two had better be up there with the top guys in the league. B) We need cover if one of our experienced forwards gets injured. Chingy coming back will be a great bonus at hopefully just the right time but you can’t count on it. I don’t know that this kid is the guy but one extra forward at the right time can win championships. One goal at the right time can be the difference (remember Faria?).
*gasp* you're joking right!? Rodrigo.. his golden goal over the Scum in playoffs.. the best game ever!
there can be no other explaination! in fact.. I may just go watch the We Believe DVD so I can relive that goal
