Just saw that Quake's academy player Tarun Karumanchi has verbally committed to UCLA. That's at least 4-5 academy players in the past two years that I have heard being recruited by them. I guess if the Quakes aren't going to sign homegrown players they might as well go to college.
I think you would have to conclude that, at least by this point, the academy is a bust. I'm not sure how much $$ the Quakes have invested (I'm willing to bet below the median for MLS teams), but they have not gotten a lot from that investment. Par for the course with respect to Fisherball!
'04 GK Damian Alguera has trained at various Spanish clubs and hopes to sign with the Quakes or in Europe. He was in goal for the USYNT at the 2019 CONCACAF U15 Championship. This year he attended El Salvador U23 camp though was not named to their provisional qualifying roster. https://t.co/lMPYjNAUA8— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) March 4, 2021
Not sure if this guy understands that the roster he's talking about is for replacement players in case guys get hurt. Alguera will be the 3rd keeper on the official roster.
Edgar Damian Alguera and Eric Calvillo make the qualifying team. Press in El Salvador are excited about Alguera's future.
Sounds like Jonathan Klinnsman suffered a concussion and will be replaced on USA roster by former Quake academy player Drake Callendar. That makes 3 Quake's academy keepers on the qualifying rosters. Who knew we were the goalkeeper whispers?
Wait a minute, how is Jonathan Klinsmann on any USMNT roster? He looked pretty awful in those LA Galaxy games he started after they booted Bingham to the bench.

I watched him play over several games for the Quakes U19s in 2019. I was very underwhelmed by his play. I hope for his sake I'm wrong, but I will be shocked if he plays above USL level. The Quakes had 15-20 guys I would sign before him.
Bus is taking the academy players today that were invited to train with first team in Santa Barbera. Best of luck to the young men in preseason training! I hope they can impress Almeyda and he will find someone that can help the team win more games.
A few Quakes in this U-23 depth chart... with Cade Cowell missing for some reason (like Mihailovic, Konrad, etc.)... Jacob Akanyirige probably hasn't earned a place even on the F team given an MLS regular Aboubacar Keita was omitted. Not dying on any hills here (there's a lot to disagree with), but was inspired by @y_tVincenzo to map out the A through F teams of the US U23s.The team in Guadalajara right now is solidly a C squad, and I think those D and E squads would do reasonably well in this tournament. pic.twitter.com/C7vwQh6wEx— scuffed (@scuffedpod) March 23, 2021
19 year old forward Dillon Keane, previously with San Jose Earthquakes academy and Stoke City U18's before, will be going on trial at Barnsley. He is also expected to trial at several other Championship clubs in addition to Barnsley. pic.twitter.com/UaW5NzYj5r— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) March 16, 2021
