Full time academy players are not allowed to play high school soccer. Part time can, but not simultaneously.
One thing about high school and college soccer , they get a lot more exposure than our academy boys do. Experience may be a different story though.
They get their names in the newspaper. They also have the program HS Sports Focus. The colleges also get to play their games on TV and have all kinds of online publicity and articles that the universities and the NCAA puts out. I've yet seen any Academy players in Merky or for that matter, watched their games on TV. I still recall Nick Lima scoring on Pac 12 Network from 2015. That was 5 years ago.
Someone cross-post to the John Doyle thread... Bay Area club Mustang Soccer boys program will leave U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy for ECNL https://t.co/IU7StXuRL6 pic.twitter.com/GDhCYwmpR1— SoccerAmerica (@socceramerica) March 22, 2020
While everyone is bored for sports to return, thought I’d let you see what the future Quakes might look like. This left footed center back plays for the U-15 team. This was his 2nd goal of the game. https://streamable.com/jpq3t
https://www.sandiegouniontribune.co...cademy-da-ecnl-termination-showcase-san-diego Heavy rumors that the DA is being shut down. Official announcement is expected before the end of the week. May take a while to figure out what will replace it.
I responded to Micelle Akers on Facebook about the article. This is what I posted.... I'm not sure about the women's game but in regards to the men's, I think its a good decision. The USA made six straight World Cups two by using a mix of college players and pros and 4 straight with a league in place along with some players playing abroad. They failed to make the most recent tournament with this academy supposedly already in place. They won the bronze medal in 2000 and haven't made 3 out of the least 4 Olympic tournaments. They also bowed out at the group stage in 2008. I don't see how the US Development academy has done much towards nation team development. At least when talking about the national team. What they should do is rely on MLS & USL clubs and sister academies...

More DA fallout continues. Multiple sources have told me that the LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes have shuttered their girls academies.— Travis Clark (@travismclark) May 5, 2020
If the Quakes had ever started their own NWSL team (as Kaval said they would after building the stadium), would they have shuttered their girls academy?
I doubt they would have had they invested in a women’s pro team. On top of that, don’t you think this means the quakes will never have a women’s pro team? Because they’ve probably now irreparably lost the goodwill and trust of most parents of female players in this area
Exactly! Girls youth soccer is very popular for parents wanting to get their girls a top scholarship. I mean you don’t pay the players anything as they don’t want to lose their college eligibility so how much would they really lose by fielding girls youth teams? If anything , with parents wanting to spend a lot of money to turn their kids into good players, I’m thinking the Quakes would actually make a profit by fielding girls soccer camps academies etc.
Financial reasons are given for the closure of the Quakes Girls Academy. https://www.centerlinesoccer.com/20...es-shutter-girls-academy-and-its-a-damn-shame This is a damn shame. I wonder if they looked hard to find sponsorships that would have kept it going. Did they approach women owned or operated businesses that may have been interested in supporting a program that was very successful?
I agree that for many parents these days, that is (unfortunately, IMO) what they seem to focus on. I've always seen "girls soccer" more about building confidence, learning teamwork & commitment, building long-lasting friendships, etc, etc... Oh, and about playing and loving the game of soccer.
