here's extended highlights of the historic first game between San Diego Waves & Angel City first pro woso match in California in over an decade? Played in Orange County rather than L.A., so maybe due to wanting to entice San Diego fans to drive over to watch the game? I chose to start an threat on the Waves because for me they got an very interesting roster & coach, but why were big names like Alex Morgan & Sofia Jakobsson just subs, Uugh!
Sofia had just arrived a few days prior. She had hardly trained with them. Morgan was restricted to 45 minutes due to injury recovery. Same with Dahlkemper. That is why they both only played one half.
Dahlkemper and Morgan were coming off injuries. I don't think anything serious but they had been limited a bit in training. Press played the whole game so I don't think there is a national team restriction.
Interesting tidbit courtesy of EQZ: Apparently, the Wave are the first NWSL club *ever* to record back-to-back shutouts in their first two regular season games. (I think that mean first two in club history versus first two to just start a season, but I'll have to check on that.)
Press is apparently not on the current USWNT roster, so her minutes wouldn’t be restricted. https://www.ussoccer.com/players
here's highlights of the Waves win over Red Stars., glad to see Sofia Jakobsson finally showing what she's got;arguably what used to be, the fastest woso player in the world, but at 32, perhaps slowing down a bit. Comes in as an early sub(due to the Ali injuriy, and dominates the game there after,
Tickets for the Wave vs AC Snapdragon stadium opener are now on sale. Anyone wanna wager if it's a sellout? (35k, for reference)
Alex Morgan tells ESPN that the San Diego Wave match for 9/17 against Angel City FC has, as of this morning, already sold over 27,000 tickets (confirmed by the club) which will break the #NWSL record for a standalone game. I'm told a sellout would be 32,000+. #WaveFC #Volemos— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) August 23, 2022
The largest attendance in @NWSL history AND a sold out @SnapdragonStdm. ... all with 17 days to spare 👏— San Diego Wave FC (@sandiegowavefc) September 1, 2022
