Sounds like they intend to change the name if the "marketing guy" Frerker can be believed. He specifically mentions it in the comments on the article about soccer in San Diego at CBS8. He mentions San Diego United as one possibility. But it would see the Flash name is not long for this world. http://www.cbs8.com/story/29869437/kicking-around-the-idea-of-bringing-pro-soccer-to-san-diego
Ah ok. I didn't read the comments but I wonder if they still own the rights to the name. IIRC there is already a youth club called San Diego United so wonder how that will shake out.
He does mention it was only one suggesting put forth by someone from the city. I suspect they wouldn't go with an already trademarked name.
Keaton Robbins @Keaton_Robbins Dec 22 Big news. According to multiple sources @landondonovan set to join@warrenbarton2 as co-owner of rebranded @SDFlashSoccer team.#NPSL #MLS
I wish the Nuevo Flash would announce things on social media and making the newspaper rout instead of just leaking things to random twitter accounts etc. So far, this rebranding exercise has been as painful as their history ever has been. Time to step it up. Maybe next month will be a bigger official push. Lets hope so.
Nope. No one does. Desire? Sure. Can it be a nice thing to have around? Sure. No one NEEDS a pro soccer team. As for the Flash, a team with that name in San Diego has not had a good idea about how to communicate since John Greene back in the day.
Well that's nice for you but I need pro soccer. I enjoy watching it & my life wouldn't be as complete without it. I think I can tell what I need or don't without being told so by you or anyone else. As for rest, time will tell. Hopefully they will do something next month.
We need things that are fun. We need to take care of ourselves as humans. Soccer is an identity for me. Without soccer, I have a huge gap of time and need to effort at filling it.
http://www.soccernation.com/san-diego-will-be-a-lot-less-flashy-in-2016/ Flash status is "inactive" for coming season. Joe Barone quoted as saying San Diego represents a "complicated situation when it comes to the Flash"...whatever that means.
Interesting. Wonder if Barone and Barrton are on the same page or if there is some in-fighting as to who will lead in the future.
Maybe they need to reorganize and restucture if they are trying to go pro. Take the year off to solely focus on moving to USL or NASL in 2017?
More likely the Flash will not be back. Clent Alexander was the engine that kept the Flash going. Without him... I've little hope they'll ever come back. Just as Boca FC and many others before them, the Flash are likely done for good. I welcome them to prove me wrong, but history would say they're gone.
I'd agree with you except for the fact that Barton and Donovan are supposedly involved with them. I'm with you though, wait and see.
