SRFC exercises options on nine players for 2015:

    Alvarez
    Cazarez
    Jakubek
    Kiffe
    Klimenta
    Gissie
    Guzman
    Stewart
    Vukovic

Lopez enters the 2nd year of his two-year contract with the club.

    Options Exercised

I'm a little surprised that they didn't exercise the options (if any) on Mirkovic and Daly.

What was Justin Braun's deal? Was it just a one year thing?

I'm also surprised Mirkovic isn't on that list by how much he was used/liked by Preki. I wasn't as big a fan, though he was a fan favorite.

I would think that Braun would have avoided the option, if possible. He's not that far removed from MLS, and may have thought this season would "showcase" his skills. But who knows?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I wonder if he's soliciting MLS teams at the moment.

Didn't Mirkovic make some kind of verbal agreement? I'm a little surprised they didn't keep Tandir since he was a youth talent.

Any word from Preki how much of the 2014 roster he is going to keep? Did I miss any announcements about players leaving for other teams?

    See 2nd post above.

I've seen no info on players whose option was not exercised.

Republic have resigned Mickey Daly and Ivan Mirkovic. Club is still negotiating with Gilberto and Braun has been offered a new deal but has not yet accepted.

So, with Kiffe, Klementa and Vukovic already under contract, our back line and defensive mid all return. Jakubek is also signed, so there is further continuity in back. Plus, we're pretty close to having resigned all of our starters.

Although Jakubek overall played well, I hope that he remains in a back-up role. He's not that athletic and there were times, I thought, that he looked a little shaky (although other times we was awesome), but I have to admit I did not see a lot of him, either. However, we could do a lot worse than having Jakubek as our starter, too.

With SJ as our partner again who do you think we'll see? I say Mez, maybe Jahn and Fucito.

I think Meredith is a gimme. 3rd on the depth chart and a known quantity. I would like to see one of the new forwards, Sherron and Trypak (spelling?) but SJ staff might want to have a good, long look at them at first so you may be right about Jahn/Fucito.

I'd still like to know the train of thought on determining this. Does SRFC request certain positions based on their strengths and weaknesses? Or, do you get what you get?

Well now Gruenebaum isn't coming to the Quakes afterall, that throws the goalkeeping in the air. Do the Quakes keep Meredith as the backup or do they keep their rookie dancing keeper there? Both?

I think Jahn and Mez are almost certain to come here. Other than that I don't know, I'm guessing maybe some rookies. I'm hoping they don't send over Fucito or any of the past it guys. I'd rather have youth than try to keep grinding stones looking for diamonds in the rough.

I believe those are the three most obvious of choices to come down. Although I feel as if Jahn is going to have an increased roll with SJ this year meaning we'd see a lot less of him this year as opposed to last. Tyrpak and Fucito are the two most likely forwards to come down imo.

I also believe we will see quite a bit of Alashe too. Right now he's fourth on the depth chart because SJ has a glut of dm's.

Assuming Braun re-signs, this looks like a winning roster to me. Time to sign our depth and, who knows, maybe a surprise starter or two.

    Jakubek, GK
    Kiffe, D
    Klimenta, D
    Vukovic, D
    Daly, D
    Alvarez, MF
    Cazarez, MF
    Guzman, MF
    Mirkovic, MF
    Gilberto, MF
    Lopez, MF
    Gissie, MF/F
    Stewart, F
    Braun, F (assuming he re-signs)

And that's not even counting the loans from the Quakes.

Just so no one has to ask, last year Portland loaned its players in mid-to-late February, SJ did it mid-to-late March. SJ was playing in the Champions League(?) to start the season, which may have contributed to making the loans at such a late date.

A quick Google search indicates that last season Kinnear-coached Houston, like SJ, made their loans to Pittsburgh just before the USL season began in late March. Also, like SJ, Houston played in the Champions League.

Soooo, I guess I really haven't shed much light on when the loans will be made, but now you have a point of reference.

Is there any requirement for how many players an MLS affiliate is required to loan? How many are required to be here at all times?

Seems like last year the Quakes kind of took advantage of the situation and the dual-affiliation with Portland - did not send players until the last minute (I think it was literally the day or two before the first game we received Fucito). This year there should be more requirement, I thought it was 4 players in the past, is that the requirement still?

I'm guessing we will see Mez and Jahn, possibly one of the backup keepers. Maybe their rookie Alashe. Otherwise not sure who we'll get, I'm hoping Fucito isn't kept around just to loan us.
