First player signed. Another this week as well. Sacramento Republic FC will host the signing of its first player, midfielder Rodrigo Lopez on December 3, 2013 at Hot Italian at 1:00 p.m. Lopez is one of two players that will sign with the club this week. His career includes stints with Portland Timbers (MLS), Chivas USA (MLS), Orlando City (USL PRO) and Ventura County Fusion (PDL)...... http://sacrepublicfc.com/sacramento...-year-anniversary-celebration-player-signing/
Another random observation that might give us an idea on who the second signing might be. I recognized Max Alvarez (former Sac State player) in a preview Fox 40 had on the upcoming Republic FC commercial that is being released on Thursday. Might be him just due to the fact he is a local guy and featured in a commercial.
Hmm. But as an announcement signing? I'm thinking it will be another guy who has spent some time as a pro at some level, like Lopez.
I heard that no one was kept around from the first round of open tryouts....anyone heard different or can confirm?
Yes, there were two weekends of tryouts back in Oct. I don't know if the second weekend was "call backs" or a fresh set of players. Fresh set, I'm guessing.
Have we actually signed anyone other than Lopez? They said they were going to announce another signing but I haven't seen anything yet.
Did we sign Peter Lowry? I've seen people leave comments on other articles but can't seem to confirm this anywhere.
This is the only article I've seen that's named a player, a CB. Haven't seen anything since... http://soccerly.com/article/soccerly/timbers-and-sacramento-republic-is-a-done-deal-1
Here is another article with some specific names: http://www.chicowildcats.com/news/2013/12/23/MSOC_1223130627.aspx?path=msoc
I haven't followed lately. Just curious, whether they will be there in the future or not , is there a team and/or are there players training daily? If not shouldn't there be one in place by now?
No and no. They are having one final tryout, and signing a bunch of guys after that. I assume they may also identify positions of need and see if they can't go after stronger pieces elsewhere. They did say they were getting guys show up from all over the world, so it's not just local college kids showing up. I'm hopeful.
Doesn't seem too bad at all. Some of his achievements: -- Named First Team All-West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America -- Two-time All-CCAA selection And then he also spent the summer of 2012 with the Seattle Sounders Premier Development Team.
Probably fake, but on Wiki, on the 2014 USL Pro season page, it lists this guy as our captain: Peter Lowry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Lowry Although he did grow up in fair oaks, California so there may be truth to this.
I think Preki will put a pretty good team on the field. They probably won't compete for the title in the first year. But I think they will be competitive. He should be able to draw some pretty good talent just from Cali. I think Cal FC is a great example of talent that is out there that has fallen through the cracks.
Haha, I had asked about this guy a few weeks back (scroll up to my old post). I forget now where I heard it, but I haven't seen anything else about him. To my knowledge, other than Lopez, this is the only guy we have (maybe?) signed?
I haven't heard or followed anything as my grandma died and I lost track. Are they still trying out players? I can not find anything online.
I'm sorry to hear that, Falvo. Final tryout is this weekend. Hopefully, we'll start hearing about some signings in the next couple of weeks. They've got t start training SOMEONE soon.
Thank you. I would think that with a season set to start in and around March or April, there should be at least more than one signing and training should be taking place by now. With this gorgeous climate we are having in Norcal this winter, we know the weather is not a factor. I hope they start deciding soon on who will be on the roster.
