So with Sacramento most likely in, need some cup names there and if you are to assume STL gets in, they will need a cup name for rival games with KC (obviously), CHI (since hockey and baseball have created that feel for years) Not sure if STL would consider MINN and maybe later NASH, but they are geographically close enough for reasonable travel. Austin of course will have DAL & HOU (some kind of Texas Version of Cascada (?) MIA obviously with ORL, not sure if ATL is to far to be a rival. NASH has ATL geographically close and a case could be made for Cincy and STL. Bottom line, despite a large country , we are seeing travel and if we add teams in such a way as geographically close, can only help that. To me, big gaps still exist between ATL and DC (NCFC anyone?) CHI and TOR (Detroit?) The future will be fun..
------ They've pretty much done all Garber asked for- great downtown stadium site with transit, an existing team with history of good support in lower divisions and they went out and got another deep pocket owner added and have total support from the city /local government. Nothing in life is a sure bet, but if Vegas took odds, I'd put some money down. IF Garber/MLS doesn't select, any future owner should be wary about all the hoops to jump through and still not get a team. Good instant rival with SJ, Nor Cal and So Cal (LAFC/LAG) will be good also and then geographically, SLC not too far and Portland to the north, so they have reasonable distances for traveling fans.
I’d love Sacramento to join the league but before, I actually think Garber wants St Louis as well as another east coast team.
I think you should have some sort of cup with Cincinnati and Kansas City to honor your shared NBA heritage, but that's just me.
Garber said a bit back they were done in the SE for a while. Though Charlotte/Raleigh may make a run at 30.
Garber says a lot of things. Though I think you're right about #30, he said that before some big things happened in Charlotte.
Well, ASB is here. That Sac/MLS meeting is on the horizon. Hopefully something leaks soon. Thiugh I would expect a pretty bland MLS press release as well.
https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/orlando-city-took-challenging-path-to-mls-all-star-spotlight/ No formal announcements this week: "Although Garber told Pro Soccer USA he will not be announcing any new expansion teams this week in Orlando, MLS will soon add new franchises. "
Paragraph six in that article has been stealth-edited, to read as follows: "With agreements currently in place with 27 total clubs, the league anticipates selecting the 28th and 29th expansion teams in the coming months with an expansion fee set at $200 million for both clubs." Only one explanation for this: DOOOOOM!!!
For the record: https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article233345997.html No deal is yet signed, but everyone says they're not concerned, as complicated deals take time. Garber raised the prospect of it dragging on through the Board of Governors' meeting in December, though we could reach agreement before then. In summary: a whole lot of no progress. Y'all still got room on the doom ledge?
