Marvellous idea my man. The only thing is that if we get relegated and go bust, then the 10 mill we get for Ryan will just about cover half of our debts.

    Still, worth a try...

Well, I have just finished up my finals, so I can contribute to the discussion.

    I am for Jri's idea!

Hey Ryan, your nationaa team call-up may be near. Would you play if they asked you to be a replacement player? Or would you decline?

Thanks for the support, and you/I could form, pun-ingly, a Union.

There is that thing called debt negotiation....we'll get them down......we'll get down! :)

Hey ryan, i m actually a big fan of union...absolutely heartbroken that they got relegated last season. Was kind of hoping of a Hertha-Union rivalry which would've rocked, but u sorta got a rivalry now with our amateur team...good thing u don't have to play them anymore.

    Good luck!! Eisern Union!

btw i start you in my lineup in Football Manager 2005...you helped Union get promotion. Hopefully you'll do the same this season *wink*

I take this post with a grain of salt, but I do have a couple questions. What is a replacement player and why would anybody decline to play for thier country? Is there an example I may know of?

I will have my German citzenship in a couple months time and who knows what kind of doors that may open. Of course, this is all a really, really long shot for a player in the 3rd Div. Given the opportunity, I would love to play for the US, as would most American players!!! Also, as a Yank Abroad, living so far from home, I would always welcome a chance to get back to the States for a few days.

Ryan, I'm sure you remember the 1996 baseball strike, and the owners' threat to continue the season without their regular players. If you visit the USMNT forums here, you'll find several threads about a similar situation with the national team and the USSF regarding the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers (here, e.g.).

The conflict here is, clearly, between standing by your fellow players and pursuing a dream of playing for the national team. Best of luck getting your German citizenship, your input on this situation would be much appreciated.

    Ryan,
Go to the USA Men New and Analysis section for more info on the replacement players situation.

WOW. This sucks. This sucks for US soccer. I'll get back to everyone later when I have some time to really read about it all and formulate an opinion.

Ryan, I am curious what sort of process you had to go through to qualify for German citizenship. Marriage? Length of stay? Thanks, Harris

    :) Cheer up Ryan!

Things turned from bad to worse here in Berlin.
I think it`s the right place -but the wrong time...
    Great job so far!

You know the situation... we still have hope in our hearts.

You're not kidding. Union Berlin is in 19th and last place in the league. Seems the bottom five teams are in the relegation zone, and Union Berlin's hopes are dashed (17 points from safety with 7 games to go)...

I feel sorry for Union. I hope they find a way, it would be nice to have them further up.

They lost 2:0. I think this loss puts them officially out.

I guess this thread should now be thuoghts from Kiel. In that vein, here is mention of Ryan in Kicker
    http://kicker.de/content/news/artik...iga=1&saison=2004/05&spieltag=34&gruppe=16521

They don't just refer to him as a striker but as a "goal hunter". Torjäger is a very nice description here in Germany.
