    A. Académica de Coimbra vs FC Porto
    Liga Portuguesa (7ª Jornada)
    Sunday, October 2, 2011
    Estádio Cidade de Coimbra
    20:15 Kickoff in Portugal

So we'll be back to league action this weekend looking for our first win in 4 matches, but it won't be easy by any means. Pedro Emanuel has his side playing some nice football, and they would actually pull ahead of Porto in the standings with a victory. If you look at our last 3 results, only the draw at Feirense really sticks out as a sore thumb, but there is no question that Vitor Pereira will officially be on the "hot seat" if we lose this weekend.

I guess with Kleber apparently not available for this match due to injury, the immediate question is who starts at striker. Let's see what happens.

God, no. I think he CAN be a good assistant. Maybe. But as head coach? Disaster.

Probably someone just winding up the rumour mill.

Dude, I know you think its funny when you troll all over the place, but in all seriousness right now, do you realize that as an adult, you're going to an internet forum where the purpose is to have discussions, and all you're doing is purposely trying to make others upset by being childish? I'm really not trying to be an asshole to you, I'm not. I'm just saying, that an adult with any type of maturity just doesn't do that type of stuff. If you're still in high school or something disregard my post, but if you are over the age of 18, I suggest re-evaluating your life.

He posted a picture of himself attending a Sporting training session, and he looked about 15-17 if that really was him.

Hope so personally, but VP has a very tough decision. If he loses this game there is a very real chance that he'll be fired, so I guess the 2 options are:

    a) Start Walter. We know he can score goals and is our only fit natural striker right now. But he also may still be out-of-shape, depressed and anxious about his daughter's health problems, and unfocused on football. VP didn't even play him against Feirense after taking Kleber off, preferring instead to play with no striker and 4 central midfielders.

    b) Start Hulk as a striker. Hulk has been vocal about preferring to stay on the wing, and didn't do well last January as a #9 when Falcao was out.

Tough call. Love Pedro, great in the dressing room but does he have the stones when it comes to tactics?

    What about Jardim in Braga?

PDC and Jardim are quite close.

    Predictable mate.

But seriously ask your mom where she bought those shorts.

I want a pair. I've decided to go out for Halloween as 'Z'.

That's right, your look will make a great costume.

OK, with all the trolling going on here it's easy to forget that tomorrow is a huge game for Futebol Clube do Porto.

    Here's our list of callups:

    GK: Helton and Bracali

DF: Fucile, Rolando, Otamendi, Mangala and Alvaro

MF: Fernando, Souza, Guarin, Belluschi, Moutinho and Defour

FW: Hulk, Djalma, Walter, James and Cristian Rodriguez

INJURED: Sapunaru, Kleber, Alex Sandro and Rafa

TECHNICAL DECISION: Maicon, Varela and Iturbe

--So unfortunately Sapunaru still isn't fit enough to play, and we'll have to hope that Fucile makes up for his poor performance in Russia.

--Kind of odd that VP keeps rotating Mangala and Maicon, perhaps the Frenchman will get a start tomorrow next to Rolando.

--Full arsenal of options in midfield, I'd bet on Guarin getting a start.

--No Kleber up front, so the big question is whether VP goes with Walter or elects to start Hulk as his #9.

Guarin for sure must start. He's been heavily missed in Russia, IMO, as he's the only one in form in our midfield. For me, Moutinho has been a tad disappointing this start of the season. But I much rather have him than Belluschi, so I expect Moutinho/Guarin+one of Souza or Fernando. Given Fernando had to sacrifice himself at RB last game, I think it makes sense to have Souza from a fitness perspective, but from a psychological perspective, benching Fernando could be a clusterfeck of giant proportions. He didn't seem happy at all when put at RB.

Walter needs to be a starter here. I know it doesn't leave much game changing options in the bench, but you shouldn't tie your hands just so you can untie them later. We're just not good enough with Hulk as striker, he needs to be on the wing.

Excellent post, I can't disagree with anything you said.

Some people are speculating that Moutinho might not be a big fan of VP's system, which could explain why he's struggled lately.

And with Fernando, you do get the feeling that he hasn't been happy at Porto all season long after not getting transferred.
