Of course that's from a completely impartial view. If it was from a Muffsee point of view, it'd bee Rooney and....Rooney :D

I thought the players voted on this in March? That's why there's always been strange anamolies where players who did very little at the climax of the season may win while those who perhaps won the title for their clubs miss out:
2003 Thierry Henry Arsenal (Ruud led United to the title)
2002 Ruud Van Nistelrooy Manchester Utd ( (Henry led Arsenal to the title))
1999 David Ginola Spurs (!!! Keane led United to the treble)

good for Gerrard, he deserved something for his CL run. But he hasn't been the best this season, that would probably go to Terry or Henry.

Funny that Rooney voted for Fabregas, said it was between him and Bent. Ronaldo nowhere to be mentioned. :D

Rooney was always going to win the young players award.

Interesting that Ronaldo made it onto the Premiership team of the year as well. Good for him, and Rooney of course, though him winning was almost a formality.

Just highlights the stupidity of football players and the fact that they don't bother to watch the league. Joke awards.

    no, the Ronaldo part.

Anyway, here's the team of the year

    ------------------Given---------------------
    Chimbonda---Terry-----Carragher---Gallas---

    Joe Cole----Lampard-----Gerrard------Ronaldo--
    -----------Henry------Rooney---------------

Can't say I disagree with much of it, although the Ronaldo inclusion was surprising. Honorable mentions on my behalf include: Carrick, Benayoun, D.Bent, Bullard, Parker.

I'm going to eat my hat if John Terry got 2 places in the team of the year... who is he? Keifer Sutherland?

Its a crying shame that Ruud didn't get into the TOTY as well.

Still nice to see Given getting keeper of the year. At Newcastle he doesn't always get his dues or enough exposure, plus he has always had a poor at best backline in front of him for them, but he has been the best keeper in the Premiership over the course of 2001-2006 for my money.

He strikes me as being too inconsistant for my liking. He'll have the odd great day where he is invincible, then he'll disappear and you won't see anything from him for a few games, then the cycle repeats. I suppose it could be blamed on the defence, but I suppose we will never know until either Newcastle find one or he moves to an elite side.

He has a decent bacline for Ireland in front of him... not great but able to get the job done. And for us, in what must be about 60-70 caps he has never had a bad game, and you could count the costly mistakes he has made for us on a single hand. His main problemused to be his distribution, but he has improved a lot on that in the last 3 or so years.

Just heard Craig Gordon got PotY in the SPL. That's madness, also a quality keeper though.

Rooney deserved the young player of the year award no doubt, he would of got the PFA player of the yea award if he wasn't nominated for the young player too.

Don't think you can vote for players from your own club.

Having just sat thorugh a repeat of the the awards ceremony and having not seen anyone else mention it on here, (it's not really being reported anywhere else either) I'd just like to point out the special merit award, given to an individual or team for some kind of outstanding achievement was awarded to George Best.

This was the first time ever that the award has been given out posthumously and was awarded for his contribution to the game. I've found it hard to find a list of past winners of this award although last season it was won by Shaka Hislop for his involvement in anti-racism campaigns.
