Attached is a picture from shasta -- he couldn't post it himself so here it is. Take it away, shasta!
Oh my flippin god....that is one of the greatest pictures I have seen in a couple years. It says so much....god, I hope and pray that some of these guys are still around when I have children.....
you're just jealous because my kids will be in the national Spelling Bee on ESPN, and they'll kick your kid's A$S!!
Thanx for the help, Bill! I took the picture while we were greeting the players before the game on Sunday. I sent the picture and the following to the city council members of both San Jose & Santa Clara. So far, I have recieved a positive response from Santa Clara. "We were at the San Jose Earthquakes game on Sunday and got to go on the field before the game and it was cool. The kids we brought totally dug it. I took a lot of photos that day, but the one I've attached of Landon Donovan and a little kid wearing a "Believe" t-shirt really stuck out. Every time the Quakes come out to autograph alley, they stay till' that last kid is gone. On Sunday, even the guys who were obviously hurting (Brian Ching could barely walk) were out there. That is totally awesome! They also come out to our youth league practices and our children's schools. They are a fantastic community asset. In these days of mega-egotistical, obscenely paid professional athletes, the Quakes represent (to me) positive, responsible role models. So many people underestimate the positive influence the Quakes have on our area's youth and it would be a true shame if we lose them. I named the photo "Role Models"."
Great. When I saw the photo one of my 1st reactions is that the city councilmembers should see it. "A picture is worth a thousand words" and I'm sure they've received many thousand words.
What a terrific picture--and what great timing to capture such an evocative moment. (I would, however, crop the photo so that you can't see all those empty stands to the right of the players.) Thank you both for sharing that one.
