https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2021...er-ny-fc-to-kick-off-in-mls-next-pro-in-2022/ will be competing in a lower version of the first division league – MLS NEXT Pro. Rochester NY FC, rebranded from the Rhinos in September, Monday was introduced as one of 21 teams that will participate in the league when it kicks off its inaugural season in 2022.
Makes sense in the short-term as the nearest USL L1 team is in Charleston. Hopefully if L1 expands in the northeast they'll move over.
More so the rent at what used to be Sahlen Stadium. Frontier has not been used for soccer since Pae Tec Park/Sahlen Stadium/ whatever the name is now was built.
Rochester NY FC will serve as MLS NEXT Pro’s inaugural independent club. Rochester NY FC, founded in 1996 as the Rochester Rhinos and rebranded this September, is owned by David and Wendy Dworkin, and co-owned by Premier League striker, and former England National Team star, Jamie Vardy of Leicester City F.C. “We look forward to showcasing Rochester as a premier professional club and are excited to kick off that process by helping to launch the inaugural season of MLS NEXT Pro in 2022,” said Vardy. “Joining this league, full of opportunity for communities, fans, players and staff – on the pitch and off – is a tremendous point of pride for our club.” "We are thrilled that Rochester NY FC will be the first independent club to join MLS Next Pro", said David and Wendy Dworkin. “Rochester established itself as a winning club with the Rhinos, and we are pleased to add a new chapter in the city’s rich soccer history as Rochester NY FC. We are excited to develop the future international stars of soccer, right here in our local community. By joining this league, Rochester is on the cusp of the future and the evolving global game of soccer."

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is allowed on this forum, but I wanted to let everyone know that I've recently published a book about the Rochester Rhinos. The title of the book is All The Rage: The Story of the Rochester Raging Rhinos and SoccerTown, USA, and it focuses primarily on 1996-2001, with an epilogue that details 2002-2021. If you're interested in buying a copy (copies are $25 apiece, $35 if I'm mailing it to you), feel free to e-mail me at 1996alltherage@gmail.com. I'm also on Twitter at @AllTheRage1996 where I tweet out a daily "This Day in Rhinos History" tweet and other notable pieces of Rhinos trivia.
We have some big news for you tomorrow 🟢⚫️ pic.twitter.com/84hLzdxFqF— Rochester New York FC (@rnyfcofficial) June 12, 2022
