very sad. I have a 2month old daughter and I would be devastated should anything happen to her.

We may offer our prayers for Robert, but concrete action should be taken to support his wife, who presumably has now lost both a daughter and a husband.

didn't get to see too much of Robert here in America, but when I did see him play I appreciated his style. He never flinched, ducked, or bailed out. Always looked like a man in the net compared to some of the other boys.

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

When listening to his statement after his last BL match from Sunday, it's hard to imagine that the non-nomination for the upcoming 2 national team friendlies might be a reason for what happened yesterday.

    CLICK
    (fast-forward the video to 2'30'')

Here's some more videos about his career & yesterday's tragedy:

    http://sport.zdf.de/ZDFsport/inhalt/0/0,5676,1700000,00.html?dr=1

Btw: According to "BILD" (well, you always have to be careful with news from this paper), Robert Enke was in psychological treatment. Apparently he had a special training at morning with his goalie coach Jörg Sievers, but didn't arrive at the afternoon training with the team. When his adviser/mentor Jörg Neblung didn't manage to reach him (Robert's mobile phone was off), he immediately called Enke's wife and asked her to look for him. Then police was informed, too. Short time later, they got confronted with the shocking message about his suicide...

    http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussb...bert-enke/warum-warf-er-sich-vor-den-zug.html
(according to the video included to the article, a farewell letter was found in his car that was parked 200 meters away from where he got killed by the train ... so we'll hopefully get to know the true reason for this incredible & shocking act)

PS: What parallels between Enke's & Deisler's career! Both started their BL career at a very young age in Mönchengladbach, were great talents and smart & sensitive guys ... and both left Borussia after the club's first relegation (season 1998/99). Unfortunately, the career of both players ended tragically. :(

I doubt Enke commited suicide because he has not been nominated by Loew. Thats what a coward does.

The DFB should not cancel the friendlies, 2 friendlies are about 1/7 of the total preparation matches we have before the world cup.

They can be postponed but shouldnt be cancelled

One can only speculate about the reasons for his suicide, but the Hannover president is quoted in the kicker article, that Enke "has been labil" since the dead of his 2 years old daughter (understandable, who wouldn't be). :(

All the best to his family.

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

i think Enke commited suicide not because he has not been nominated by Löw..but more because of some private problems..maybe he got the information that he is seriously sick
    or had other problems.....

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

Löw made clear to Enke that he is still on the same level as Adler in the competition for the number one spot. Other than that, no one would commit suicide because of that, especially not Enke who must have rather been happy to get a shot at being Germany's number one in the World Cup or even be on the squad after all the ups and downs in his career (Turkey, Barca). And Hannover's president Kind said that the suicide does not have to do anything with sports.

Yes I think so too. He was in psychological approach since the dead from his daughter and now his own sickness.

    R.I.P
and all the best for his family.

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

He didn't seem real upset by the omission. He said we agreed I'd stay in Hannover and it's ok and had a little smile. I don't see how that had anything to do with what has happened. Also if he left a letter in his car that should not come out in the media it is private the whole world doesn't need to know what it said.

    Oh, so very sad.

What a time to die!? On the day of Germany's unification day and just before Armistice Day. Very sad.

I hope his wife will overcome this and get even more support.
