Pinola, meanwhile, still doesn't have medical clearance to start playing again, but being the warrior he is he's trying to get on board for Wednesday's game: Javier Pinola sobre sus ganas de estar en la #CopaLibertadores: “Espero que me sume a la lista. Yo sabés cómo estoy...”. 📲 pic.twitter.com/OHHpFZRXYo— RENZO PANTICH (@RenzoMPantich) May 17, 2021 CRACK!
Looks like Casco is going in goal tomorrow... the other option being considered is Enzo Perez, who is still injured and could be risked just so we can field 11 Edit: according to press, Enzo it is
And Junior are beating Fluminense right now (1-0 at half-time), so really nothing is going our way. If the Brazilians win today we’d only need a tie tomorrow to assure ourselves a spot in knockouts, but with the Colombians winning it’s a different scenario that would put us in a very tight situation even if we beat Santa Fe. Fielding subs in our previous two games when we had everyone available is really coming back to haunt us now..
I don't know why argentinian clubs (not just river) care so much about that shitty league cup, it's not even a league title. Everyone should be playing their B team there.
Thankfully Santa Fe is the weakest of the three rivals. At least in the first game against them in Colombia they showed zero offensive threat, and we played them with subs that day. Although today’s match is a mission from hell, my main concern was the game vs Fluminense. I was imagining players like Fred and Kayky taking shots at Enzo and scoring 50 goals, and then us trying to score one freaking goal with the absolute muerto Fontana up front However, now the press is saying that for the game vs the Brazilians we may recover several players from the first breakout (Armani, DLC, Borre, Palavecino, etc) if they present negative tests in time. It’s not a guarantee they’ll make it and, if they do, it might not be all of them.... however just having the possibility of having a more complete squad changes everything. Anyway, battle 1 of 2 coming up. IN ENZO WE TRUST!
Este arquero, Enzo, es un buen arquero. Mucha confianza en su arco. Veo un buen futuro a este muchacho
Jokes aside, we're lucky this Santa Fe team is really garbage. I know it's the first half but the two early goals have really helped our team's confidence that has been already depleted with all the infections.
That was the most nerve-racking match I've seen in a long time. I love this team and the hustle they brought to this. Enzo eres un dios!!!!
Also huuuuge shoutout to Lecanda and Pena Biafore... if you didn't know the squad or the context of the game, you'd have no idea they were making their professional debuts. In none other than a crucial Libertadores match too... both pibes played like accomplished veterans. Definitely two to keep an eye on.
What a game. What a feel this team gives me. I know that these are not players that will be remembered with some of the legendary teams, but the Marcelo Gallardo Era is a real era of River Plate. In the future people will be talking about when they realize that Gallardo became a great manager, last night's game is a continuation of Gallardo establishing himself as one of the world's best. I mean, he Gallardo is now in a very prestigious status for the club. He is an all time icon. A ********ing LEGEND!!!! I LOVE THIS GUY!!!!!!
I had decided to skip the match, but had to log on to the stream long enough to lol at the 2-0 scoreline. Gallardo is a f***ing legend.
May 24, 2021 Not a bad idea to take advantage of the trip. But it paints a grim picture of the Vaccination shortages in other countries
Qualified to Octavos because Junior choked last night. I’ll take it. These dudes in TyC sports talking about a potential River vs Boca matchup in Octavos. I don’t know if it’s just wishful thinking or slow sports news day over there. because there’s a lot of scenarios that need to align before that matchup happens.
If you want to talk about choke job, today Olimpia beat Tachira 6-2 in Group B and ended up advancing over the Venezuelans because of a 2 goal difference (they were tied in points for second place) Well Barcelona beat Santos (who btw ended up being the only Arg/Bra team that failed to advance from the group stage; what a shit team), so Boca finished second and a Superclasico in R16 is officially ruled out. The drawing will take place next Tuesday Our rival will come from one of the following 8 teams: Palmeiras, Internacional, Barcelona, Fluminense, Racing, Argentinos Jrs., Flamengo/Velez (one game left to define the group, though for now it’d be the Brazilians), and Atletico Mineiro In other words, unless we get Barcelona, we’re guaranteed either a Brazilian or Argentine rival in Octavos. We’ll be playing the first leg in mid July (13-15) in El Monumental, and the second leg away a week later. Btw, Copa America ends July 10th — just days before the first match-up, so we’ll have to see if that affects any of our players (De La Cruz, Borre, Montiel, Paulo Diaz, Armani, Rojas, David Martinez, Julian Alvarez, Enzo, Angileri, Casco)
