It was a pleasure to have him as associate (and friend to) the Revs. A graceful striker who played without arrogance and always intent on what was good for the team. A good man. Rest in Peace.
He had a big impact locally and especially on our team. Hard to imagine that such a humble, easy-going and good-humored guy was a big star in his day. I didn't see it on the telecast, but I hope there was a tribute to him during yesterday's Euro Cup final at Wembley yesterday. When he coached for Stevie, I believe he specifically worked with the forwards, developing guys like Twellman, Noonan and Dempsey. They must be devastated by the news, along with all the others who worked, played, listened to and laughed with him over the years. We Revs fans were honored to have him in our midst.

"He made you feel like you mattered": Revs remember Paul Mariner's larger-than-life impact By Charles Boehm Thursday, Jul 22, 2021, 03:15 PM mlssoccer.com New England will pay tribute when they host CF Montréal at Gillette on Sunday evening, their first home match since his passing.
Absolutely great write-up. While I had been invited to the post-game celebration (that wasn't) ... I just couldn't stand it so went out to get some air. That's when I had the pleasure of hanging out with Nicol and Mariner after one of our MLS Cup losses. I was (obviously) furious and hurt that we had lost, and they came outside to have a smoke. They both saw me and Paul turned to Nicol and said "You're going to hear it now from Monty." I had to laugh. We spent about 45 minutes just chatting and it was a cathartic moment (for me, at least).
If anyone would like to help, either at the game or earlier ... Before Sunday's #NERevs game, we'll be collecting donations for the National Brain Tumor Society (@NBTStweets) in honor of our friend, Paul Mariner.Bracelets will be available in Lot 4C to all who make a donation. As much as the losses hurt so much for us - especially in finals(!), it's got to be so much harder for those intimately involved. It's a measure of the incredible experiences and perspective of those two legends that they were able to put this, too, in perspective and still manage to smile and joke around. What a treasure of a memory for you.
