Anyone ever fly out of this place? If so, what are parking rates? Interstate access? Thanks in advance.
I haven't flown out of there but I read an article that it had multiple advantages over Port Columbus. Closer parking, cheaper parking, etc. Rickenbacker is South of I-270 on US 23 and the a couple of miles East after you get past Scioto Downs. And it's my understanding that Hooters Air will fly from there to Atlanta starting in the next couple of months. So an additional benefit over Port Columbus.
Rickenbacker is primarily a cargo hub and Air National Guard base. It also has facilities to service charter passenger services. In addition to the previously mentioned Southeast Airlines, Hooters Air also flies out of there (but they only go east - Nassau, Atlanta, maybe Orlando). The airport amenities are a little stripped down (no bar for example) but if you can get a deal flying out of there, great. The deal is that they are not "common carriers" but rather, strictly speaking, "charters". The companies act essentially as travel agents, leasing planes and selling the flights individually. Common carriers can't fly out of Eddie Rick. Check around though. Las Vegas is a very competitive ticket, and you can make a really good deal either well in advance or at the last minute. Up until last year, I used to go every Spring. (A business thing) $400 is a good price. Anything under that is a really good deal.
